They're having some issue today that is making speeds ridiculously slow.

Here's a test from last month...

I hope they get it fixed soon.....

At least you have internet.  Mine's been out since just after noon and I'm having to use my neighbors wireless (qwest), with permission of course.

Ours was out for about 3 hours today, until about 3:30pm

Same, down most of the mid- day, intermittent outages now.

Though overall my experience with Cox has been damn disappointing, so I wasn't too shocked.

Called their 'tech support", only to get the automated message that "due to the volume of calls, we can't answer you, please call back later".
Basically tells me they know they fucked up and don't want to deal with the ass chewing.

As if their tech support was ever able to tell me what was down, why it was down, when it would be fixed or if people had been dispatched to repair the issue.

Yup down for a couple hours here. I called Qwest fully intending to order their internet service, but was shocked by even the introductory price.

Back now, but not without much cursing and gnashing of teeth...

We went out to dinner, and when we came back it still sucked.  So I called in.  No more message saying it's bad (mine went bad about noon as well, btw).  So I'm thinking we're good to go, maybe they just need to send a reset signal to my cable modem.  Get this girl on the phone and tell her what's going on "as I'm sure you're aware".  She proceeds to tell me that they have had no issues today and she doesn't know what I'm talking about.  It's my problem.  Are you FUCKING kidding me?  I tore her up.  She then says "Well, your cable modem isn't even connected".  Really?  Then how the hell am I able to browse the web (albeit very very slowly) while I'm on the phone with you?  Uh uh uh uh...  She then tells me that the only option is that my cable modem is broken and I have to buy a new one.  The FUCK I do.  They sent me this piece of shit (free of charge) in July and told me I had to put it on my line.  We argue back and forth.  I finally tell her to just send a fucking reset signal or whatever you call it and lets see what happens.  All huffy, she finally does.

Hmm.  Hey, my connection is just fine now.  Her response? Oh, you must have had the cable unhooked before.  Fuck you though I and hung up on her.

I love Cox to death, as long as I don't have to call in and talk to any of their techs.  No offense if you work there and know what you're doing, but I've never talked to you.  I always get the Mcdonalds mop bucket reject fuck-up who doesn't know a cable from a pubic hair.

I had Qwest for near five years, before I moved to where there was no option other than Cox. Qwest is not much better.

You may get a warm body instead of wading through hold hell and automated bullshittery, but chances are they'll be in the phillipines.
I managed to get the phone number for the executive secretary, and that at least gave me some leverage when dealing with the call center people.  I could threaten to let them talk to her, instead of me, as she'd be the next person I'd be calling with my issues regarding their service.
Eventually though, they told me they weren't going to run new line to give me the bandwidth I was paying for, and just credited my account forward when I really pitched a fit.

I'm betting that like Qwest, Cox is so subdivided and compartmentalized that one hand does not know what the other is doing, and they LIKE it that way.

I think I live in the same area around bell and 35th ave. Cox goes through phases where they really suck. I had no e-mail for most of the last 2 days. Net was really slow and locked up all the time. Just bought a new cable modem as they said mine was not compatible with the new upgrades and it still sucks. I had to take the forward from my website to my cox mail as it keeps locking up and I don't get business e-mail for a few days. The cable is sucking too as I get lines of text across the screen at times and the channel guide is down for over half the day every day.

Yup, I'm just down the road from you.

My service is no where near that bad.  I've lived at this house for ~7 years.  This is really the first time I've had a problem.  I've definitely not had issues like you have.

I'd be really pissed.

Call cox, have them send out a guy. He'll replace all your fittings and little boxes and crap. Unless you told them NOT to, you're paying the little fee that goes towards this crap.
Have a friend who was an installer. All their hardware is garbage, thats why that happens

Had a tech come out.  I'm near 35'th and Union Hills, and there has been a recurring issue with the connections in this area.
The tech basically confirmed what I'd already discovered, and what I'd been calling Cox for months about.  His supervisor confirmed the symptoms, and mentioned that it had been ongoing for "a few months in some cases".

I'm not sure what if anything will  be fixed but  when the phone clone says "what problem?" if you live in that area they are lying or ignorant.
Cox knows there is a problem.

I call them screaming all the time. Dumped quest because they sucked about as bad. I also have two neighbors that are trying to ride on my wireless network and when I hard wired it they try to go in through my airport card in my computer so I am double screwed.

Can you explain this?

Why dont you just lock down your WIFI, and MAC Address to keep them out?

Exactly what I was thinking. Just lock down your WiFi and that should solve your problem.

Just reading this thread makes my blood boil!
Fotunately I have Cable One and have experienced good service.

I'd be waging a war against the Cox cogsuggers.
Threaten my credit rating?
The WAR is on!

If it makes you feel any better Cable One in Prescott is no better.  Netflix streaming bounces back and forth between HD and lowest quality.

Welcome to Cox.

i have had the Cox-suckers in two cities.  They always want to send a tech out to your house, every time you call.  They will never admit that they have an infrastructure/hardware problem.  It always fixes itself until next time, and there will be one.  They are guilty of throttling and have bandwidth issues in many neighborhoods.  You rarely get full speed, and often you will get half a web page load at high speed and then it bogs.

Qwest has been consistently up for me.  Not blindingly fast, but consistent.  The one time in the last 6 years I had a connectivity problem, they had a message on their phone system saying why and the expected uptime, and they were early at the repair time. No bullshit about wanting to send a tech to your house.

Cox can climb a wall of dicks.  Fuck those motherfuckers.

If you are using the Modem that came from Qwest, you need to disable the wireless and install your own Cisco/Linksys wireless router that has modern WPA encryption.  You still use the Qwest supplied modem.

You should also disable your computer's built in wireless when not in use.  Most computers have a switch for this, others you need to click on it and disable it.

Never had those problems with Cox, and I get more than all my speed.
I've worked at lan centers/internet cafes, I got people in all the time to play WoW cause their Quest DSL just never works
