I've always wanted to get my Dad over to the real Wall in D.C.

The traveling Wall came here to Prescott Valley a few years ago. Went there with my Dad, Mom, and one of my nieces.

My Dad was standing there just staring at this one name. I asked him who he was. He looked up at me with tears in his eyes and said "I held him as he died."

We stood there and shed tears together.

Gentlemen, make time in your schedules to go see the Wall. It will be worth it.

I'm there. I have two names my dad wants off of there.

I will fore go any prior commitments I had made, and visit the Viet Nam memorial travelling wall, while it is the greater Phoenix metro area. My father, who served in Viet Nam, would like for me to make a paper rubbing of the names of two Marines he served with in Viet Nam, both of which were in his unit, and friends of his since bootcamp, died while serving their country over seas.

Better?

Edited because some people always assume the worst.

... That would dishonor the memorial. You should explain to your dad that those names are on the Wall for us to remember their historic and ultimate sacrifice to the country. I would seriously reconsider desecrating the memorial for your dad.

First I heard of The Wall coming to Phoenix.  I'm planning to visit.  Had a few friends got to VN and not come back, it has been a long time now, but this will be a way to say goodby to them finally.  May they rest in peace and know they were appreciated.

The person who told me about this is an older gentleman who served in Korea and lost his brother there. He then went to Vietnam. He said that he has 23 names on the wall from his time in Vietnam. This guy has seen and has been in the shit big time. He 87 and after making it through two war and losing all those friends he’s fighting stomach cancer now. It makes the BS in your life look petty when you get to know this guy.

I think he's talking about doing a paper rubbing from the names, Winston.

I think he knows that, he's drawing attention to the poor use of grammar in that other reply.

I was talking about a paper rubbing, and excuse my poor use of grammar. Why the fuck would I want two names physically removed from the wall? Why the fuck would I go desecrate a memorial to those who served?

I editied my first post for clarification.

I have buddies on the wall. I went to DC to visit them. It hurts but in its own way I like it better than any other memorial there. If there is ever a memorial that conveys the hurt, this is the one. My cousin's name hurts the worst. It's on panel 1 west. He died while they were arguing over the shape of the peace talks table.

I have my memories. I don't think I'll be going to visit it this time. I will go back, not just yet. If you have never been to the wall, please go. If you don't know a single name on the wall, God bless you. Please go anyway. These people went when asked and gave everything they had even though it wasn't a popular thing to do. This is my generation's answer to the "greatest". They gave just as much as anyone could. You will be honored to be in the company of their names.
