Years ago, my father worked for Ma Bell as an installer.  During those days, he knew every shop pretty much all over the valley.  Today, however, some of those good old places are long closed, and going into a new shop is not much fun.  Too many folks with too little experience and too much bullshit floating off their tongues.

We are looking for a good, honest shop with a good stock of product or at least a "can-do" attitude when it comes to getting us something not currently on the shelves.  There are a couple of older guys at Cabela's who know their asses from first base, but they are part-timers, and I pretty much hate walking into Shooters World unless I have no other choice.  So, who do you guys recommend?  B&D Guns in Glendale used to be a great place but his inventory leaves much to be desired. I do miss Dealers Outlet in Glendale also, but they closed down years ago.  Short version, Who has their shit together?

Im sort of new to the shooting community, but i have visited my fair share of shops.  Most are decent, but there are a few that stand out to me.

1. Bear Arms: Great guys who know their stuff and are friendly too, decent selection and a good source for local milsurps.  They also have quite a few ARs.

2. Scottsdale Gun Club: They might be a bit full of themselves, but its hard to beat their selection, and mostly reasonable pricing.  Service can be hit or miss, but they tend to be friendly.

3. Shooters Vault: Not the biggest store, but they make up for it in service. They really know their stuff and can guide you in every shooting dilemma you may encounter, they are a tad overpriced, but I'd almost be willing to pay because of the effort they put into customer service.

I hope this helps you, this is just my experience, so other's reviews may vary.

most of us have realized that you can get what you want mail order far cheaper. and transfers are cheap for FFL items . so while there are lots of shops for people that need help ,those that know what they are doing can avoid the gun shops and the know nothing clerks most of them employ . I would rather save money and get it on the net myself .just the thought of saveing the sales tax makes me feel better . there are exceptions like Arizona Armory and Coleman Tyler (to name just 2 )that will get you what you want with out any bs or attitude at the right price.

Anybody have any decent prices on lowers in the Phoenix or Tucson area?  I was just at Tucson Guns and they want like $200 for a CMMG stripped lower.  Completely ridiculous.

I certaintly like the lowers you have on your website.  If I was to go to the store could I still use the coupon code you have on the forum?  If I ordered online, because I'm in state, can you ship the lower to my door?  One last one.  I was really hoping to build it myself from a stripped lower but the price you have for the complete lower is one of the best I've seen.  Would it be possible to get the complete lower dissasembled so I could do it myself?

Thanks for your help!

If you already owned the firearm they could ship it to you. Otherwise, it still requires an FFL

I'm not a lawyer, this is not legal advice, check with ATF regarding all regulations and laws, etc. ad nasuem...

Coupon always applies, just mention it. We can't ship direct cause you have to fill out a 4473 w/ ID check etc.
Make sure you call before coming in, I think we will run out tomorrow and it could be a few days before we get our next batch back from anodize.
If you want just the parts and save me the time of putting it all together, I might kiss you.

I just pulled a rookie move and accidentally clicked report on your post.  My bad.

Anyways, It'll be another week or two before I make any purchases but I'm almost definately going to buy from you.  I'll just have to take a day off work.  I'll give a call before I make any plans though.

P.S.  Sorry to the OP for hijacking your thread.

Kevin's a good guy. I got my Cav Aid receiver from him.  Buy with confidence.

Back on topic, there are plenty of good gun shops in town:

Randals on the west side is a great shop, good selection, plenty of reloading supplies, nice guys.

Legacy on the north side mostly caters to the CASS crowd, but they have a nice selection of used stuff.

Mesa Gun Shop. (West end of the East side)  Little hole in the wall place that has been there since about forever.  Great selection of used stuff, some new stuff, inventory seems to rotate quite a bit.

AJI on the far est side.  Reasonable selection of stuff.  Plenty of mil-surps and a good selection of new and used.  Reloading supplies are priced very high, but Jeff just started carrying them, and at least he has some.  AJI is the kind of place where ammo is expensive but the guns are affordable.

Went into Randals based on this post and was very pleased.  Great bunch of guys and prices seemed decent to me.  Picked up a nice little Ruger 22/45 and thought I got  a great deal.  Thanks for the recommendation.

I will never spend another dime at shooters vault.  Spent 4K there in just over a month and was treated poorly by both the tall guy (brandon I think) who I inconvenienced by showing up and the big slob that sits on his ass and is too lazy to get up and help a customer. Kind of reminded me of dealing with Marty Mandell . They lost another 15K in sales because of those two times I was in there .

Bear Arms has treated me good in the past.

Nothing on the West Side eh?  Damn.  I used to frequent Lone Wolf, but not much anymore.  Kinda turned off the last time I was in there.  The boss was short with us and the staff.  Maybe he was having a bad day, but nevertheless, he did nothing to make me feel welcome.   Some days, I really miss Smitty's.

But hell, I miss Wallace and Ladmo too!

In Phoenix there's a shop called lone wolf. My dad likes to go when he visits my grandpa who lives nearby. It used to be his favorite shop. Last time I went in was years ago, but they always had a decent selection at pretty good prices. They definitely favor "evil" rifles if I recall correctly. My favorite right now is a gun shop in Tempe at Priest and University. I don't know the name, but they have a great selection of new and used guns, and have some deals there, including semi-auto benelli's for 650. Damn I wish I had money.

USAuto Weapons in Phoenix. <EDIT> . Poor customer service. Lies in emails. I have the thread to prove it. Promised parts in April. July 31 said he had them in hand and just needed an address. Total BSBFL (B.S. Bold Face Lie).

Others beware. He'll sell you a $24K Transferable NFA M16 but cannot complete a transaction worth $35.00.
If you know him just ask about the .170" lower parts for the soldier at Ft. Bragg......USO Shop of the year. Thanks for the vent!
Thanks Mark!!!

Anyone who doubts this IM me and I'll send you the email thread right from <EDIT>.....

I'm a member at Scottsdale Gun Club. They're a site sponsor and a pretty good shop. Most of the guys there are very knowledgeable and are very helpful.

US auto weapons pricing makes SGC look cheap. I've bought a couple of small things there and they're always 10-20% more than anywhere else. On one Daniel Defence item they were more than MSRP. But they had it in stock.

Welcome to Scottsdale...

Why pay retail when you can pay retail +? One of the late night comics had a joke about this sort of thing a few years ago when comparing the difference between New York and LA. Something along the lines of... In NY, people brag about how much they save. In LA, they brag about much much they over-pay. I guess we've had too many Los Angelenos move in....

In my instance saving 10 bucks on a 50 dollar part wasn't worth the 1 week wait for it to be shipped. Hell it isn't worth the drive to bfe from where I live in north scottsdale.

Wow.. great thread.

Dealer's outlet..  Steve Bond had a great shop there.   He's no doubt one of the best salesmen for guns in the valley.  Dunno what he's doing now but I'm sure it's selling guns, cheap.

SGC -They built a range in Scottsdale when it was probably a bad business decision for anyone else.   Looks like it's paying off.  They don't just limit themselves to retail.  The leader there is very much an entrepreneur.

US Auto - They are a niche gun shop in a niche market.   It doesn't get more boutique than that.  On a Saturday at 3pm if you're looking to buy a case of chalk 40mm, they might be your only choice.

Bear Arms - Good shop, decent folks.

Damn.  Maricopa county kicks ass for gun buyers.   God bless America.

Never say always my friend. We not only price match but will beat any local, in stock, non-sale item with an additional 5% discount. If there was a Daniel Defense item that was over priced, I am certain it was a mistake. We certainly appreciate all feedback, positive or negative, as it helps us make the changes necessary to grow our business.
