If anyone gets a chance, I highly recommend the patrol Carbine class from G.C.C. Really having a good time with it so far. round count for today was a little over 500 rounds. Great class for a great price.

I am sore.

500?

Are you sure??  I am only at about 400 - give or take.....

I brought 15 mags, I had to load 13 of them tonight while watching the Phillies beat the rays.

I have a feeling I am going to be even more sore when I wake up.

Say Hi to Phil for me!

Sounds like he has you guys burning up more ammo than usual.

+1; I've had great experiences with all the gun classes at GCC. Done the carbine class a couple times, but I think the last one was a couple years ago. I'll definitely try to catch the next one.

And I agree with Markm; I don't think I've ever gone through 500 in one day there. Is your class pretty small with experienced shooters? Those are the classes that can really move!!

I may have been shooting a little more.......but I went through 8 loaded mags twice......what can I say, shooting the 9mm suppressed SBR was fun. I know a couple of the other guys went through as much as I did.

The next time, think I'll use 5.56 and the ACOG.

The class only had 6 people in it. most of them were experienced with shooting their rifle. we shot somewhere between 300 and 400 hundred rounds today.....the single head shots conserve ammo.

Gonna try and do the class again in spring.

They're different each time...  so you never are truly repeating the exact same class.

Classes are indeed harder than they used to be.  I used to shoot them with no knee pads and such.

Now I have bruised knees if I try and shoot without them.

When is the next class and how do I get info on it? GCC website? I wish MCC had something like this.

The classes are part of the Admin of Justice program at Glendale C.C.....you do not have to be majoring in the program to take the classes.

link to search for classes at GCC

choose the "more search options" at the bottom. under the Misc. Search options use the Misc subject drop down menu and choose Admin of Justice program and it will bring up all the classes for the semester you pick.

Scroll down and you will see the various classes. this one was the Patrol Rifle Concepts. I have also done the Precision rifle concepts a couple times. I have done a CCW class through GCC and the firearms II class.

There are 2 handgun classes coming up, one in november, and one in december. I have had Branham and Catalano as instructors for the handgun classes. great teachers.

the rifle and carbine classes are usually just once a semester. how much you shoot and what you do can be dependent on the size of the class and the experience level of the people in the class....but for $106 ($71 for the 1hr credit class and $35 lab fee), it is a great class for the price.

Two full days of training for that price is a bargain!!!!
I hope to do it again.
We had a great bunch of students in the class.  It was a really good experience.
This class last April was more basics oriented - which was really good for me.
This time more movement and team concepts.  A lot more fun, and eye-opening.
Knee pads - yes...I can't believe I brought along elbow pads and kept forgetting to put them on. doh
High round count....good.
Sore and out of shape body....bad

It doesn't matter.  You have to go to Ben Avery anyway.  And registration is as simple as a phone call.... or their whacked out website... if you can figure your way through that mess.

I really wish I had been there for this one. I'll do what I can to make it to the spring one, but like everyone else, money's tight and I need to update some things for my AR before running it in a class.

And guys, I truly mean it when I say this, I took a 5 day Front Sight handgun class (for free, a friend hooked me up), and it was nowhere near as good as the GCC 2 day Firearms II class. I'm not even kidding. And they normally charge $2000 for that class! I can't say enough good things about the GCC program. I've had instruction from Branham, Catalano, and Lori (can't remember her last name) and they are all top-notch. First carbine class I took through there (probably 5 or 6 years ago) was with Bill Jeans, and the last time was with Phil a year or two ago.

We should try to put up reminders on this board everytime a Firearms II or carbine or precision rifle class comes up through GCC. I take Firearms II at least one a year, often twice.

If you train under Phil, you won't need a bunch of aftermarket gadgetry on your gun.  A functional AR with some kind of light is all you need.

can't wait to do another class through GCC.....I have done a couple with my brother. Phil does not even really like slings to much.....but I can understand his perspective. when deploying from a squad car, the slings have got to be a serious snag hazard.

We decided to skip this one.  We almost took it, but as much as we'd like to, we just can't take every class Phil does.... so we try to space them out a little.

(and thanks for sayin hi to Phil for me.)

I understand....
It was a good one - well, to me anyway.
I liked learning about the stack concept and "dynamic entry" (my words) & FID.
Phil created a mini shoot house using target backers.

I hope to take it again.

Phil created a mini shoot house using target backers.

He's good at doing that.  He brought out the "running man" remote control target system one class.  We did hostage scenarios where we had to "sit" on a house and just wait til the target did something.
