Ok, so I am getting a decent tax return and I want to surprise my wife with a decent vacation for just us.  We haven't had a vacation alone in 6 years with our 4 kids always tagging along.

I got her mother to agree to come and watch the kids for 1 week around March or April.

So now I need some ideas... We both like the beach, but we also both like being outdoors.

I am looking for something out of state for around 1 week.  I was thinking San Diego area with Seaworld and the zoo and what not,  but I figured it would still be a little cold in March / April.

What are some other good areas / states / good places to vists for a nice vacation

Cabo is nice. I haven't been down there in a while but my parents spend a week down there every spring.

My favorite place to spend some time outta the US (that's fairly close) is Pureto Villarta.  There's a hotel called Golden Crown Plaza that has AMAZING food, great pool, right on the beach, nice rooms, and overall a kick ass relaxing time.  The best part is all the food is FREE (and no it's not dog, cat, strays) and so are the drinks.  The place is 18 and over only so they don't have a buncha whiny kids, and I just really like it.  I've been there about six times in the last ten years or so.  Same place, same great service, and same fun times.  Just my two cents.  BTW you'll need a passport if you don't have one.  But I'm sure you already knew that...

Club Med Cancun was the best week of my life.  Sandals Jamaica was hell.

Cabo is next on my list.

What to do something in the US.  She is from Mexico so we are down there a lot and her brother lives in Cabo right now working for a US Home builder so we are already planning on going there later this year.

I tried to talk her into a midwest hutting trip but no go...

San Diego is close and it won't be terribly cold unless you try to go in the water. There is plenty of outdoorsy stuff to do. You can make trips to Cabrillo Point and up towards Carlsbad in no time at all. There's Balboa park (with the zoo and museums), Seaworld (probably more relaxing without the kids), Scripps Aquarium, Oldtown, Seaport Village, and a ton of other things to do while keeping the blood moving. It's close and in the off-season.

But honestly, I'm sure you'll find that wherever you go you'll appreciate the time alone and all you'll talk about is the kids.

I'm going to SD at the end of March, should be beautiful weather.

Me and the gf are doing the Seaworld/Zoo thing, Balboa Park and a drive up the PCH to Carlsbad etc etc.

We're staying in Old Town, we work for the corporate offices at a hotel chain so we got the employee rate. Score!

Make it a trip you both will be talking about for the rest of your life.  My vote is Boracay Philippines!

My wife and I spend 4 days there and man was it great!!!  We have been to Hawaii and stayed on the beach at Waikiki (at $500 a night!) and Boracay beats it hands down.  The Regency was only $175 a night and it was directly on the white sand beach.  This vacation was the best ever!

Or maybe Manila and Corregador:

Tons of history, the people speak English and the prices are cheap compared to other resort areas.  The only drawback is the 14 hour flight, but meds make that time fly by!
