Short answer:  Moretsky-Cassidy.  I'll post more later as I am heading out the door.

+100.  No shit.  I went from 20/300 to 20/20 w/o blur, haze, any problems.  Mine cost about $1400 per eye, but with his background and the fact it's my eyesight, it was well worth it.  Very nice (and fairly goodlookin -not that it matters too much) staff and doc's made it very easy and painless experience.  He's in Scottsdale and his number is 480/483/3937.

I used Moretsky.  He was terrific and my sight is incredible.

That said, I think there are a lot of good doctors doing this.  And the technology (the machines the doctors use that do the measuring and burning) is constantly improving.  My understanding is a good doctor will upgrade and get the latest machine and then use if for a few years.  That makes him the best.

Next year, another good doctor will finish with his 3 or 4 year old machine and upgrade to the latest machine.  That makes him the best.

See what I am saying.  You need a competent doctor and you need the best technology.  So, ask around, research the technology, and go from there.

When I use Moretsky, he had the latest machine out.  It mapped the eye in much greater detail then previous machines, and the laser could adjust around this increased mapping detail.

Good luck.

And one last thing, getting lasik was perhaps the qualify of life change I ever made.

To continue....

I had mine done in July 2006.  I was about 20/300 or 20/400 with some astigmatism in both eyes (more pronounced in my left).

I had mine done with Moretsky-Cassidy, on the recommendation of a friend who had his done there several years ago.  His wife, a med student when I was contemplating, actually had an internship rotation at Moretsky and was impressed with the operation.

I told the doc I wanted good distance vision so I didn't have to rely on glasses when shooting.  To me, distance vision meant pretty much anything beyond the end of the bed.

The pre-operative procedures and testing were pretty standard...vision test, pupillary dilation view, etc.  The woman I dealt with previous to actual surgery, Audra Keeler (Thunderbird office) was nice, and helpful.  Took time to explain the procedure, answer questions, etc.  Everything you'd expect.

My surgeon was Dr. Cassidy, though the immediate post-op exam (the same day, around 4 or 5pm) was from Dr. Moretsky since Dr. C was doing surgery.  Both are very nice.

All surgery is done at their facility in Mesa....wife drove, and I was like the second patient for the day.  I got there at 8am, and was out and on the way home by like noon as I recall..but I was hopped up on Valium. :)

Procedure itself was painless, though you could feel pressure on your eye as they did the actual flap cutting.  Uncomfortable but not painful.

After surgery, they sat me up for a second before putting the protective goggles on...asked if I could tell the difference.  Oh yeah...I could read the clock all the way across the room.  And I could tell that the one office assistant, who looked great w/o my glasses, no longer appeared so.  Perhaps I shouldn't have gotten the surgery. :D

Wore the goggles for 2 or three days, tops.  Showers were interesting since you can't get water in your eyes or wipe your eyes if you did.  The whole "no rubbing" part for several weeks, at least, was the most difficult to do.

I am now still around 20/17 in both eyes, 1.5 years later.

The only drawback:  dry eyes.   I have normally dry eyes from all the antihistimines, etc., that I had taken over the years for allergies.  So bad that I actually had to stop wearing contact lenses in the late 1990s because of it.

During the day, I am fine for the most part unless I sit staring at a computer for hours.  Normal activities are fine.  When I wake up in the morning, my eyes are VERY dry.  I keep a small bottle of Refresh 'tears' with me now for those times when they do dry out.

I had looked at Lasik back in around 1998, and went to Barnet-Delaney.  It felt like an assembly-line operation there, and I felt pressured to actually have the surgery.  Instead, I chickened out, and forfeited my $100 full-exam fee.  I just didn't have a good vibe there.

I am glad I waited, since technology has improved a lot, esp for astigmatism.

One thing that did impress me about Moretsky-Cassidy is that they turned down my wife as a LASIK candidate.  Her corneas are too thin to properly do the procedure.  The did discuss with her some new ideas that are in the works ('insertable contact lenses') but not yet approved.

The fact they rejected her as a candidate, while making my wife sad, showed me they were interested in ensuring positive outcomes for their patients...which, obviously, protects them from "you didn't do what you promised" lawsuits, but was nevertheless impressive.

I just went through Barnet Dulaney Perkins the day before Thanksgiving.  It was expensive, but I couldn't be happier.

My wife had it done 3-4 years ago here in Tucson, but I forgot who the doctor's were. She is very happy with it.
