I work at a medium to high end jewelry store here in the valley. We are across the street from a Scottsdale high school. Every year for the last 5 years I have been here, the high school kids have become more and more aggressive in their actions and attitudes towards the businesses and employees of the strip mall. For the last two weeks we have asked the kids to stop skateboarding of the steps leading into the parking lot. Stop running around yelling profanities at each other, basically stop being total douchebags. They never listen. Last week I called the police. They came after all the kids had left. I called again on Friday and the police officer (she was cute!) told them that unless they were buying they were to vacate the area. That worked for exactly two days. Last week I had one little piece of shit tell me "he knew his rights" and that I could talk to his parents or "his lawyer". Today, one little shit on his way to getting into a white Escalade pointed a cap gun directly at me and pulled the trigger 4-5 times. What would the AZ hive mind recommend? Chris |

Sounds like you need to contact the mall security people or institute a mall security program. These little snots will run business away with their actions, and it sounds like it is escalating. Security will give them something to focus their anger on instead of the shopkeepers and customers. I would have called the police on the little gun toter anyway, next time it might be real. Even if you know it is not real, does everyone else? Do you have No Loitering and No skateboarding signs posted? In the meantime, video and keep calling the police and file charges as necessary. Make it too hot for them and they will leave. |
Way to go internet commando! Did any part of my post give you the impression I was scared? I am asking for advice. I did call the cops on the cap gun prick. BTW. The patrol officers advised that i should call the school resource officer tomorrow. So that is the plan for today. Thanks everyone who wasn't a complete douche. Chris |
| Sit up on the roof with a McMillan-built .308. It'll only take a couple of the kids losing kneecaps before they learn. Outside of that, I'd call and see if you can request an officer to swing by at a certain time. Might be a long shot but maybe you'll get lucky and one will be there to snag the kids for trespassing. |
... Where in God's name did Garryowen even remotely suggest you were scared? ... I concur absolutely, "Harden the fuck up"! |

Check the revised ARS regarding Loitering and Trespassing - I can't think of the exact sections right now...my brain hurts. There may be something that applies. You should've called the po-po back after the kid pulled a simulated gun on you. Oh yeah, and that can get trespassed from private property such as a shopping center parking lot - refer to your local cute officer. |
Another prime example of why command-detonated Claymore mines should be legalized for private ownership I say.![]() I think you're doing the right things so far. Keep on the police, get on the mall ownership, go after the school district, and video the little fuckers every chance you get! Try to get license plates if you can (may want to hire a security service for this just to keep the little asshates from knowing which exact store is fingering them). Bear ![]() ETA: My take on the "harden up" comment was their covert suggestion of hardening your security measures --- not a personal attack. JM2Cs |
Just messin Jimmi....... ![]() |
You know, "harden up" the facility. Sandbag the structure, knock out the glass, put in some concertina wire, put a serpentine of jersey barriers in the approach, add a couple of OPs, maybe a tower or two, HESCO barriers, clear fields of fire, add a secondary mortar barrier roof, have a QRF standing by... HARDEN UP!!!!!!! |

Looks like the thread went sideways. Some good IM material here. Any word from the 'school resource officer? If you have contact, at least they are aware there is a problem. Document and record. Any more help from the LEO community? Document contacts. Plans in the works for video? Additional security? Build an airtight case to CYA. Although 'kill 'em all', knee capping, drawdown, concertina wire, sandbags and claymores look good on the screen, I doubt it is a workable solution. YMMV I'm not a lawyer, but have been in the business community long enough to know you need documentation when dealing with the legal system in cases like this. Don't get personally involved, unless it is personal, such as the display of the 'weapon' by the punk. This is about the mall, the stores, the customers, the loss of business. Keep it calm and legal. You do not want to become the target for their retaliation. My .02, worth exactly what you paid. |
Jimmi's a DOUCHE!
