Can anyone recommend friendly gun shops in Tucson. Hoping to purchase some goodies for my AR. Which stores if any have the best selection of AR goodness? thanks |

Several. I'd go to Steve at Pima Pawn on 6th. He is across the street from 2nd Ammendment andm Gad I forgot the name of the other but it has some good deals also. Then go to Diamondback on Kolb. Finally Tucson Guns and Western Artifacts. (I have a 1917 New Service Colt on layaway there) |

1st) 2nd Amendment just southwest of Pima & Craycroft. 2nd) Diamondback Police Supply just Southwest of Broadway & Kolb. 3rd) Maybe Murphy's or Sportsman's Warehouse for ammo or other odds & ends. The 2nd Amendment store is about as close to an actual "Black Rifle Store" as Tucson can get right now. Great people and good selection. |

Tucson Guns and Western Artifacts has more AR parts than any mentioned above. They are a Gem-tech dealer with some inventory and have a great lineup of Surefire. (Broadway and Camino Seco.) Sportsmans warehouse and Diamondback have very few AR parts, very few AR specific accessories. 2Nd amendment has only a handful of GG&G items. Better than nothing, but a bit disappointing. Definately worth a visit. What parts are you looking for? I was in all of the mentioned stores in the last two days looking for a Remington 11-87 3" SPS and didn't find one. I still have a bit of photographic memory and may be able to tell you if I saw what you are looking for. |
Tucson Guns on Broadway!!! It may be out in BFE, but I got a RRA LPK from them on Friday... Gotta call and see if the Magpull CTR stock they have will fit a commercial stock. |

That is what I found. I'm going to give my rating of Tucson gun stores you guys can modify as needed. 1. Sportsmans Warehouse, good selection, ammo deals every day, powder and reloading is probably the best in Tucson. Some deals on guns but pricy otherwise. 2. Murphy's, used to be the best in Tucson, now getting to be a junk shop with some good used deals. Ammo all over the floor some really good deals in ammo. Good 1911 collection. Great on used rifles. No gunsmith anymore. 3. The Frontier Gun Shop on Grant. Oldest Tucson gunstore. I have purchased 3 Colts SAA in the past there for great deals. Has older weapons including many classics like Savage 99's. I like going in there just to pass the time with a great old guy. 4. 2nd ammendment, has a good reloading selection, decent prices on AR's but not a huge selection. Nice people and has a working gunsmith who does know what he is doing. 5. Pima Guns and Pawn, is becoming one of my favorite places. Is becoming an EBR home with more and more stuff. 6. West of the Pecos next to 2nd Ammendment, small but loaded with guns and some really fine deals here. I always hit all three of the 6th Street stores when I'm in town. 7. Diamondback, a watering hole I hit for ammo every trip into Tucson. Has a better and better selection of EBR's and lots of targets, etc. No reloading equipment. But you can get the HK's and Sig's of your choice here and I'm a Kraut gunner. (Hey I was in Berlin when they put the wall up.) Owned by a guy who was a Tanker in Charlie CO 8/40. Desert Dragons. 8. The Pawnshop on Craycroft by DM. A good selection and many RCBS reloading supplies. 9. The Gunstore on Speedway next to the titty bar. Decent reloading stuff, will pass on a deal when he gets it. Nearly always a girl from the titty bar in there buying mace, etc. 10. Slash K, second best place in Tucson for reloading and maybe the best for 223 components. Owned by another former Tanker from the 8/40th Armor. 11. Tucson Guns and Western Artifacts. Getting a good selection of AR' and AK's. Lots of Western stuff. (I have a 1917 Colt New Service ther on layaway) Fun to talk to and when I stopped the robbery in progress at Hometown Buffet he listened to me vent for an hour. Notice I say something good about all, having me do this is like asking me to rate Pussy's, they are all good but some are better for some things. |
Bravo! This should be tacked. |
Great list...but here's a couple things that should be mentioned: #9....I 'believe' that store no longer exists...closed down a while back #4,5,6....The 3 stores you are refererring to as being on 6TH AVE (Pima Guns, 2nd Am., and West of the Pecos)....are actually on PIMA St....That could pose a HUGE "wrong turn" for some lost soul I won't share any opinion...I wouldn't be near as nice about some of these places

Gad I grew up in Tucson I should know 6th Street from 6th Ave. I did my student teaching internship at Ochoa School in South Tucson. When I was a in H S, the Tucson gun stores were: Stan's Pawn Shop on 4th Ave. Jenson's on 6th Street, A gunshop on the corner of Prince and Stone belonging to a guy who was in the 8th AF in WW2 and he talked to himself a lot. An auto parts store around Stone and Grant that had a nice gun counter. The Surplus store in South Tucson that sold M-1 Carbines off the shelf. ALL Western Auto stores, Sears in Downtown Tucson, Wards in Downtown Tucson. Ronstadt's Hardware store was a certified Winchester dealer. |
WAS the Prince/Stone store the one that was in the old TEP substation building I've heard about? |
| It could have been. It was sort of a long building and he had his counter toward the back. A table and chairs was in the front that Vets would come in and talk about the war. He had a pretty good selection and was a good gunsmith. He disappeared in the 60's when I went in the Army. By that time there was a gunshop on Park or 1st street near Grant. It lasted quite a while as I remember. |

We've become good friends. He's a great guy and is always eager to help. |
