What areas are good for getting a CLEO sign off on SBR and Suppressors?

Moving from Michigan and having to give up my Michigan CPL, is there a residency stipulation for getting my CPL there, or can I get it right away so I can continue carrying?

Any areas in AZ that have manufacturing plants with jobs available?

My work (MAHLE Valve Train (CNC Mill and Lathe stuff)) is closing it's doors at the end of this year.  I will be getting a 1 month salary severance package and unemployment for 6months.  I am looking at this as an opportunity to leave Michigan, it's screwed up gun laws, and crappy economy behind.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't addess your employment question as I am not in the line of work, but I'm sure someone will come along who can.
For your carry permit, you can actually get one here even being an out of state resident, but why bother until you know you will actually be moving here.   It is easy to get here and doesn't take long.  If you're sure you'll be moving here and come down here to job hunt or whatever, you could take a training class and get the application in the works.   Training is offered lots of places.  I think it still takes the better part of 2 days to get a class done. Maybe all in one day now, I dont know.   But AZ does not have a written reciprocity with Mich, so your Mich permit does not work here.    The AZ DPS web site, CCW (concealed carry weapon) permit section of their web site explains all that and the requirements for a CCW permit here.  It does show that Mich "recognizes" the AZ CCW.   What does that mean?   Maybe it is "one-way" reciprocity.   I don't know.
As far as NFA friendly CLEO's....here in Phoenix (Maricopa County), the Sheriff office is the place to go.  From what I have seen, local PD's are unfriendly for that.   But if you end up in Maricopa County, it is a sweet deal getting CLEO sign-off on ATF Forms.   But I believe you have to have 6 months residency before you can get ATF Form support from them.   The only charge is $8 per fingerprint card, no cost for the CLEO certification after they background check you.  It currently takes about a month to get.    See the other thread in the AZ Hometown section talking about CLEO signature....there is a photo of the Sheriff with a Thompson.   I don't know about other areas in AZ for CLEO signoffs.

CCW class is about 8 hours..class time and range time. Real easy to get. Basically,
if you have no felonies, and can hit a man sized target from a whopping 21 feet without shooting yourself or others, your golden. Classes run between 60 and 80 bucks and then you have to send DPS (State Police) 60 bucks along with your fingerprint card and application.
Employment wise, if your a CNC guy you may be able to get a job at one of our fine local weapons manufacturers!
I hear that Maricopa County Sherriff's office will sign off. Gotta love that Sheriff Joe!

Can't comment on the job stuff either but you can carry right away if you carry open even without a permit. Your Michigan permit is honored here, so that's not an issue for you. You will need to get an Arizona CCW eventually if you plan to stay in the state.

I emailed the CCW unit to see what the deal is on this, because it isn't real clear on their web site, at least to me...
Here is what they wrote back:

Arizona currently recognizes valid permits from all 50 states for persons 21 years of age and older, so long as that person is visiting our state for six months or less.  While we do honor the other state's permit, that permit holder must abide by Arizona's gun carry laws while in our state.  If a person becomes a resident of Arizona, they are required to obtain an Arizona CCW permit to legally carry concealed in our state.  Please keep in mind that our state is considered an "open carry" state, so a permit is only required if a person wants to carry a concealed weapon.

CCW is taking less than a week these days.
