| I used to have my CCW up in Washingtion state but have yet to get mine down here in AZ. What are the range requirements to pass the CCW course? Any recommendations on where to take the class and does anybody offer one-one courses? Thanks |
| The whole thing is not difficult at all, A little too easy if you ask me. The shooting portion is a joke, If I remember correctly you have to hit 14 out of 20 something shots on the paper. Not the target, the paper the target is printed on. You shoot at 5 yard and 15. The written portion is easier than the shooting portion, If you can belive that. It's for the most part common sence questions, I think there may be a couple that you would learn in the class. I did my CCW at Rio Salado, Good instructor. He gave everyone shooting tips and what not. PM me if you would like his info. It was also half the cost that other places charge. |
Rooftop gave you the basics of what to expect, not very tough to pass. What you will actually do on the range will depend on who is giving the course. Some will do the minimum. I went to Gunsite, we spent 2.5 hours at the range and fired 100 rounds and I could of used more. We did way more than the required but it is Gunsite and they take training seriously! I did learn the Cooper draw and fire routine, not bad. Don't sweat the class if you can't pass this course you would not let yourself carry CCW! Rich V |
Lucky for you, a new law was passed that only requires an 8 hour course. They used to make you sit for 16 hours of bullshit babble and only about 30 minutes of useful info. Even the 8 hour course is too long, but with a good instructor, you might get some useful info from it. Mainly legal stuff, not some dickwad telling you you are going to get sued every five minutes for 16 hours. Needless to say, my instructor sucked ass. Bitter, am I? Yes. Mine was the cheapest in town. I got what I paid for..... ![]() Out of state CCW is only honored if you are not an AZ resident, so getting your AZ CCW is a good thing. CCW is now good for 5 years. Renewal requires no additional time in class, a recent change, that I am not sure is in effect. It will be by the time your renewal comes up. |
| I am quite sure I won't have any problems passing the class but I work weekends and getting a saturday or sunday off to spend in class is a problem. That's why I was hoping to find an instructor who can work with me on a weekday or evening basis even if it a took few meetings to get in the hours. My Wash CCW has expired so now I only open carry when I travel up to prescott etc. I appreciate the info! |
| I took the class about 6 months ago. The instructor said the state may end-up doing away with the 8 hour requirement altogether. Don't know what the status is of that. At first I thought that would be a bad idea, but since open carry is allowed anyway, what's the difference? I took the class in the Ft. Mojave area. Filled out the app. & fingerprint card during class. Had it in the mail to DPS after the class was over. Within 3 weeks I had my CCW permit. |
The no class for renewal becomes effective Sept. 21st, just in time for my renewal :) |
