So how big them snakes y'all got out there git? How high can them things jump? I see that Cabelas place has snakeproof boots on sale. Mebbe have to pick up a pair. Theys only gots 17" ones so maybe only the head of my johnson will get tucked in. Depends how happy I am. Shore wouldn't want to get that thing snakebit. Who's the official ARFCOM poison sucker outter in SW AZ, just so I know? We'uns only gots water mocassins out here and I don't like water, fish stuff in it and all. I hear tell if you get down real close and pee on them rattlers they runs away. Izzat true? I know you fellers wouldn't tell me no stories. Help out a feller here, boys. |
| western diamondbacks get upto 7ft, But the most dangerous is the Mojave green rattle snake they get up to 50" They are also supposed to be agressive, tho ever one ive messed with has been pretty docile. You still have to treat them with respect. We also have the coral snake, but it is dinky, has short fangs, and is not very common, but its venom is similar to a cobras venom. There are many other pit vipers here too, all very beatiful. |
I will have to share my story sometime. |

HOLY CRAP!!! I may have to buy a snakeproof suit and an umbrella, to go along with my tinfoil hat. We'll be there in about a month. Rents paid and RV is bought. Oh! And I ain't a wannabee nothin, I'm just plain crazy. They pee on you he he he, that's a good one. I'll remember that.

Course a Garand will slow them down. You got that big a blockage in yer guts and you wouldn't have much left on either end to slither with either. |
I've only seen one of those, and I'd say it was a plenty agressive snake. Of course, it didn't help that some jackass had been spraying it with a garden hose after he found it coiled up by his water heater. He seemed a little preturbed when I told him that there was no way in hell I was going to go chase that snake after he had tormented it like that. I had him call one of those snake rescure folks. |
Geez!!! And I'm an ol fat man!! Guess I better start shoppin for a better snake stopper, my wife's .22 and .38 prolly won't do the job. Lost all mine in a tragic boating accident don't ya know. I'm gonna do y'all a favor and not bring any other VIRGINIANS to feed to your pets. Them things are huge.Lookin forward to meeting most of you guys and ladies, and some of y'all that don't know the difference. I've heard stories from other states. Those skeer me more than snakes. ![]() note to triggerfish (edited for correction for next time cause I'm from Vuhginya) vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv |

I have found about 500 snakes in the last 5 years, 75% of which were rattlesnakes mostly consisting of Western Diamondbacks, Mojaves, and Sidewinders. Each of these types of rattlesnakes has a general attitude which seems to be the norm, but as I said it’s a general statement so some have different attitudes depending on the situation. Sidewinders- They will try their best to get away, even when harassed will hardly ever stop and get defensive much less bite. They don’t often rattle but will if harassed. Western Diamondbacks- Rattle often when you get near (depending on temperature and if its under cover of some sort), will get very defensive but hardly ever strike my hook even when being moved around. Mojaves- They have the worst attitude generally and will rattle quickly and get defensive and strike at anything that is in range. They often will get in one place and coil up to defend themselves and will stay there for quite some time doing so. Now even the mojaves and diamondbacks try and get away as there first move, or will try when they think they have a chance. I have been charged by 3 snakes so far. One was a Mojave but it wasn’t being aggressive or rattling, but that hardly matters when one is coming at you. Another time I had a 4 foot gopher snake charge me hissing and striking at my feet. I fell backwards because I was surprised but the snake never landed a bite. The last one was a blacktail rattlesnake, he also approached in a non-aggressive manner when I was walking through a mine shaft but since he had no other direction to go I can hardly blame him. As far as size goes the diamondbacks are the largest rattler in AZ but only get to about 4-5 feet normally, the eastern dback on the other hand often reaches 6-7feet. The bottom line is watch where you walk and put your hands, and if you see one let it go about its business and don’t worry but stay sharp. Good boots and loose fitting jeans are your best bet for helping incase of a bite. If you are bitten DO NOT cut the bite, suck out the venom or any of that shit, get to a hospital! Check out this website they have lots of info and will also come pick up snakes from your house for free of charge. Arizona Herpetological Society Here are a few pictures of mine from this summer... Grab one by the tail and throw it. They tend to take that VERY badly.

YIKES!!! Even at this range I won't be sleeping well tonight, better add another firearm to the nightstand for peace of mind. |
AS long as you do that you will be fine. Snakes often end up with a bad wrap they do not deserve. |
Cept for the Mojave Greens, they pretty much live up to their poor reputation. And on top of that they've got that screwy venom on top of it. |
WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT !!!!!! The teeth or should I say, FANGS, on that thing are savage!!!!!!! Jeeter |
Big ass snake + electric fence. Probably got PRETTY mad, before the juice did him in, I'd say.... |
| Snakes shouldn't be a concern. You need to be worried about the Chupacarba. 8 feet tall with fangs like samurai swords and fur made of Kevlar 6 inches thick. I've killed 3 so far this year with the F-14 I stole from the graveyard in south Tucson. Thing is, they smell like funions, so stoned hippies are always being lured away from their bongos only to have their magic beads stolen by the Chupacabra. They are also attracted to poor grammar so you better watch out. |
Awwww yer jus tryin to skeer me son. Don't sound like theys killers. I ain't got no magic beads and I don't play bongos. Takes a F-14 to kill em' ya say? ![]() Too late anyhow, we're pullin out of NOVA tomorrow mornin. 5 days on the road and we should be there. . Hope we can get together with some of you ARFcommers and burn some powder. I understand there are some guys in the RV Park that do go shooting semi-regularly and I hope to hook up with them. It is going to be very nice to be able to shoot just about anywhere as opposed to here where I have to drive several hours to shoot a rifle. |
Yup Got that covered, slugs and 00. Still, you see the pictures of them things!!!!!! Maybe I better get one for mama too. ![]() Watch out AZ-------I'm in Little Rock headed out in the am. Made it all the way through TN and still got my virginity. (so far) AR has the WORST roads in the US!!!!! |
