Hey AZ guys. Miss Counterstrike has just taken a position at WL Gore in Flagstaff. We wil be moving out there from upstate NY in the next few months. From what I have seen on this forum, most of the AZ guys are from the Pheonix area. Any advise in general from you guys have for me about the Flagstaff area? Things like where would be the best place to look for reasonably priced housing around Flagstaff? Cool gunshops around the area? Miss. Counterstrike will be making enough for us to live on so I am going to try to finish up my degree at NAU. Then I will need a job. With any luck I will end up with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in the next year. I have been working in the firearms industry for three years now and it kills me to leave it. I am hoping the freedom, better weather, and natural beauty will be a good trade off for a less interesting job. |

... Gore is a great company to work for, She has credentials rising above the noise to get hired there. You'll love it. I spend a lot of time in Flag. During my adult life, I go up at least a half-dozen times each year. It's been over-run by hippies, so it's good to see more gun owners move there. ... Welcome |
ONLY THE BEST LIVE OUT WEST !~ |
LOL, if only you knew. NYC and surrounding area is like that but upstate NY is one of the most economically depressed areas in the US. We are living in a huge old farm house now that had been turned into a 3 apartment investment property by a downstater. We live in two of the three and rent out the other and have a 2.5 acre lot. All told 6 bedrooms, three baths. We bought it for $34,000 because all the pipes had frozen and it sat abandoned for a year. Likely sell it for $60,000. Looking at Flagstaff we will need to spend $200,000 to get a trailer on a .12 acre lot |
... Bro! You make it sounds as though they are cheap. Most of those tiny, old flats usually start @ $1.5M ... Those places just north/east (Upper East Side) from where we were drinking Guinness that night in Manhattan are occupied by the wealthiest people on earth. |

Counter, I just have to say this is a GREAT place for the family. My wife and I moved here about a 1 1/2 ago from Westchester (NY). We love it!!!!!!! I worked in Manhattan (Wall St. area) for 8 years then mid Westchester Co. before moving here and how laid back it is!!!!!!!!! . My friend in the Bronx where i grew up gave me a 86 CJ-7 Jeep because you know the price to park in the city!!! So between having a CJ-7 and now an AR my wife and i both shoot (till we get his and hers) EVERY weekend we hit the trails and drop a few mags. We live in Surprise, a suburb to the west of Phoenix. Drop a email if you'd like to drop a few mags one weekend.... Brian |
| I'm pretty excited about off roading out there. I have an 03 Rubicon and want to do some real wheeling. In upstate NY 4 wheeling means mud or logging trails, all the cool stuff is out west. I figure between the Jeep, my mountain bike, and my guns I will have plenty to do. |

Counter, Do you have a lift on your Rubi??? My Bud has a 05 RUBI 3 inch life 33's lockers front and back. He made mount points for AR's on the roof and back windows.... Check out www.azvjc.org its an online jeep site here in Az. you can get log in and get a run going any weekend and if you want to do work on your Jeep and need help, people step up to lend a hand. Its a differnt way of life out here. and we love it!!! Brian |

Welcome CounterStrike. Unfortunately you're right about housing prices. You might try south of town in Kachina Village or Mountainaire, or further south of town in Munds Park, but prices there are also high. If you're attending NAU you might check into Family Housing on campus. Lot's of new subdivisions opening all around town. Everything in Flagstaff is expensive compared to other parts of the state. "Poverty with a view" is the local saying. A couple of gunshops. Ruff's Sporting Goods and Horizon Shooters. There's also Gary Reeder Custom Guns (Pistol Parlor). They mostly do custom work but had a few guns for sale last time I was there. Lot's of gunshops down the road in Prescott. |
