Anyone know where I can pick up some cases locally? In the near future I will need some and dont want to pay the rape shipping being charged out there!

Laredas surplus had the individual components (main entres and such).  I haven't been in there in a while though.

That's the way I like to buy them because complete MREs are so bulky and long on packaging.  I just buy some Chili Mac and a pound cake and a heater, and I'm off on my merry way!

Why the hell would anyone buy MREs?

If I were in AZ, I would happily give you the 10 I just have sitting in my truck.

What's your RE code on your DD 214?  I know some people that give them away practically free!

What does my RE code have to do with getting me some MREs? Don't feel to comfortable disclosing that here. And why do I want MREs? Well being a former marine...I just love em! I remember it like it was yesterday, getting pissed on while leaning back against a pine at Page Field, chowing down on a chicken a la king! Yummy! Its an acquired taste!

Freeze dried is much better even though you need water. Check out www.mountainhouse.com on their "Just in Case" package. 7 days of food (3 meals/day) for $100 and they pick up the shipping... Or The Sportsmans Guide has 5 days of freeze dried for 2 (2 meals/day) people for $44. They also have MRE's for $41/case, but they're not complete. You get an entree, crackers and condiments in each pack. Larada's in Mesa has individual components like markm said, but they're thieves in my opinion. They JACKED up prices before Y2K and made a bundle. I asked the owner if she was going to lower her prices afterwards and she said "Nope, I'm making too much money off of peoples fear"... Free enterprise is great! But, gouging because of fear is another thing...

Those were the days when you could get a case of MRE's at a gunshow for $25-$30 ($20 if it was Sunday and they didn't want to carry the unsold boxes home)

If you're looking for bulk, long-term storage food items other than MRE's, give me a call... I have many resourses here in Arizona that are local to you...

ETA: Just looked at Mountain House. The "Just in Case" went up $15 since I last looked at their website. And, they're out of stock on them. If I remember, there is a group buy in the Survival Forum for Mountain House stuff... You might get it cheaper there if you're considering freeze dried stuff.

Now is a horrible time to be looking for MREs.  There's a lot of panic buying going on.

If you're looking for an emergency supply, here's what we do.

At the beginning of every year, we go out and buy 4-5 cases of mixed canned goods.  (Fruits, veggies, entrees, etc.)  We hold it for a year, then replace it with new stuff, dropping the previous supply off at a local food pantry.  I get an emergency food supply and in the end it goes to a good cause.  Hell, odds are good the entire mess it tax deductable assuming you keep your receipt. :P

Relax Jarhead, I was joking, as if to say that you could join the Arizona Guard and get all the MREs you ever wanted.  You know, the people I mentioned who give them away, "almost free"?  Hell, if I wasn't TDY to Fort Irwin this year I'd give you some just for being such big fan of MREs.

BTW, Chicken Ala King, AKA Pollo Ala Snot is no longer on the team.  Thank God.

Bloody good suggestion. We will start doing that as well. I want a well-rounded stockpile!

A former Marine and you like MRE's?  How the hell is that possible?  You couldn't have been in the field that much.  I can't stand eating those things for more than one day.  Plus, that stuff backs you up like nothing else

Anyway, if you still want some MREs around thanksgiving time, I'll be back in AZ and will happily give all the ones I have left over to you.

I was an airwing jarhead..so yes my time in the field was minimal. But we ate a ton of them when we went on 2 week dets. Gunny wanted us "Hard"! I just love them! They crackers and cheese! YEAH! Though the cheese did do considerable blockage to the nether region!

I normally get my MREs through these guys:

www.beprepared.com

It's been a while since I purchased anything from them, but my last purchase of MREs was 3-4 cases (family of 5) and the shipping prices were surprisingly reasonable.

[shrugs]Worth looking into, anyway...[/shrugs]
