| does anyone know a good shop here in Tucson? plz send me a PM |
| Slash K is on Ajo just east of Country Club. Its in a white 2 store building that shares with a furniture shop or something. If you load accurate arms powders you can bring in your old powder cans and refill them at a lower cost usually $13 last time I checked. |
It's up to $14.75 a pound now |
| ok, I just went by slash k, it is tuesday morning. They are closed monday-wednesday, what gives? I can not find one decent gun store in this town what is the deal? Am I left with the internet and Wal-Mart? I had much better options back in Havasu, and that town is much smaller. |
its actually that attitude that kills local gun shops. come back on thursday |
I have to agree, unfortunately - for the size of Tucson, its reloading and over all gun store presence is pretty poor. Much smaller towns have better! I land up driving to Phoenix for almost everything when it comes to reloading.. |
| You never mentioned what you wanted, just looking for Gun Shops. If you are looking for reloading, give the Cash Box pawn shop on craycroft and 29th a try. They seem to have a decent stock and at good prices. He'll order anything you need. And, they have guns too. |

About a year ago we came close to moving to the NW part of the state due to a possible job change. Looked around Lake Havasu for homes and of course had to check on the gun store sit-rep. I was AMAZED at the quality stores ( 3 within walking distance, one had an indoor range) I found, and a nice county range right by the river on the outskirts of town. 1 store had 30-40 Lee-Enfields, N4M1's and N1M3's all with bayos and slings, in VG-VG+ shape for cheap (some old guys collection), they said it happens all the time because of the wealthy retirees. Anyways, I took 1 home. 1 store had everything you would need to build an AR (stripped lowers, LPK's,stocks, etc.) and good prices at them all- but the move fell thru. About Tucson, I waite for trips to Phx stores and sometimes Tucson shows for most of my buying. I have been here since 83 except for a few years in Graham co., and it just keeps getting worse. Murphys used to be really good, when it was just him and Chuck, but now his overhead is so high because he has an extra 2-3 guys standing around behind the counter that its hard to find a deal and you sure don't want to trade. He used to be very fair on trades and I would deal with him 6-7 times a year working trades- haven't done that in 3 or 4 years. Slash-k is ok for some supplies, especially in a pinch, glad there here (and good prices on Don Hume leather) The population of Tucson area has at least doubled since the 80's but I think the amount of gunstores has been cut at least a third. Maybe it has to do with what color the county is at every election. Just my 2 cents EDIT to add: I babbled on about Lake Havasu just to show how a town of 5000 can have more to offer our way of life (hobby) than a city of our size. |
Tucson just sucks! ![]() ETA: I grew in Graham County. That place need a good gun store besides Wal-Mart. |

R guns is where I bought the Lee-Enfield i'm pretty sure. They also had more AR parts than all the Tucson stores combined. Very good prices. The store with the indoor range (which one is that?) had good prices and friendly guys wanting to shoot the shit, also good selection. The store on the opposite side of the street, on a corner, must be the one you say is overpriced. Overpriced compared to the other 2, but not to far off from the typical Tucson prices. I was only in there for about 5 minutes. R guns was the nuts Also, the indoor range store had a TON of surplus ammo in various calibers at good prices- my guess is these are the guys you refer to as militia? MJ- you are not joking about Safford needing a good gunstore, back then I use to look forward to Tucson trips the way I do now for Phx. trips |

Trust me R-Guns is the best, I know. The one on the corner is Southwest, they are miitia people if I have ever met them. And they have very limited supplies. The one with the indoor range is Sam's Shooters, I dont know what you bought there, but everything I have ever looked at has been EXTREAMLY overpriced. When I was pricing scopes, they were often $100 over R-guns. The people were nice, but I dont' go there. For reloading equipment etc. go online to midsouth, but for guns/ reloading equipment, R-guns has good prices. |
| The only thing I bought was at r guns- I said sams had a buttload of milsurp ammo, battlepacks, bandoleers, etc. at virtually gunshow prices- try to find that at ANY of these stores, they also had some good prices on some used guns- although I didn't buy any thing because I already picked up the rifle. The other store was pricey- just like most of Tucsons---I was agreeing that r guns was the best Also, you won't find to many people around here put off by the militia connection- in other words if they have good prices, people here would probably spend money there, if not no one will go near it. |
| yea, i went into southwest one, the militia place, he was talking to some guy about making his AR auto. I jus walked back out. They dont have much, and what they have is crap. R-Guns is my favorite store, i need them to open up a branch down here. ;) if they dont, i will. |

Back in 96 I began the odyssey of opening a store in Tucson- began the FFL paperwork shuffle, found a storefront location and had a chunk of change after pulling my state retirment. Used the money to get completely out of debt and the store idea fell apart. Last Sept. I had a choice, go back to school and finish getting my degree or think about the store thing, went for the degree- but I still think about opening a GOOD store here. I think this town is due for a store that wants to cater to the customers, give them what they want. Its a business you will not get rich at and can be tough for the first few years, but can be done without gouging, IMO |
Whats the problem with Jerry's? I 've had a great experience in there, actually - guy was fine and he had some very well priced unique guns... |
