Nearly forgot to tell you about this beauty... Winchester 94 receiver only- no guts, stocks, etc. Mirror hard chromed. The guy wanted $75 for it and said it was a take-off from a rifle "that was a junker." Well, for $75... Waitasec, where's the serial number..? "Ahh, it musta got buffed off when we were cleaning 'er up for the chroming... Err, howsabout $60?" Just a guy renting a table with a few nothing-special handguns and the obligatory three random mags that don't fit the handguns. You'll know if you see him at Crossroads- there aren't too many mirror chromed Winchester 94 receivers out there... Not as good as the guy with the four Colt M-16 receivers who put JB Weld in the sear holes at the Dec 04 Crossroads, but amusing nonetheless. Mike |
Well, who knows where it came from, but serial numbers weren't required, AFAIK, until GCA of 1968. In fact, looking in my BB of Gun Values, there are a lot of Remington rifles that show "no serial numbers until 1968". Dunno about Winchester. |
Oh, quite so-- pre Nov '68 is perfectly fine if it never had a serial number. However, even if it was made when Jesus was born and it once had a serial number-- no dice if it's missing or altered. I've seen a Winchester 94 that was produced before 1900 that had a serial number, so I ran far away. Mike |
