[ARCHIVED THREAD] - AK-47

Ok, I am thinking about getting an AK to add to my collection. Problem is, I know nothing about them and all the different types SAR 1 SAR 2 etc. I mainly just want to have something fun to shoot that's not too expensive to buy. I'd like a folding stock one that's not a piece of junk. I don't think I'd put a scope or anything on it, just a basic fun to shoot rifle.

Anyone have any advice on what to get or can point me in the right direction to start looking up info on them?

I got mine at AJI sporting goods on Apache Trail, just a little Romanian rifle that shoots great. I spent a little time with it and found that it's pretty accurate also. You can get the folding stock for it over the net or find one in a shop somewhere

Lone work has Romanian AKs for about $300. If you get one I'll show you were to find cheap folders and mags.

What's the difference between the SAR1 and SAR2. I'm going to the gun show on the 26th and then might hit J&G afterwards. I'll see what I find. I'll probably take you up on that offer too.

sar 1 shoots 7.62x39 which is the ammo that the AK47 shoots
the Sar-2 shoots the 5.45x39 which is fired by the AK74

ammo and mags are cheaper for the SAR 1

Thanks. I think I will stick with the 7.62x39. I found a AK site with a lot of info, so I've starting to read up on it.

I was at pistol parlor today and saw 3 ak's. One had a folding stock. I think they were going for around $349

jg sales has them for 259 or 269 in thier flyer that they sent me but I cant find the flier or that price on the website. Im going to call and if they have them for that price its a deal.

5.45 AKs are cool. The mags may and ammo may be cheaper, but only by 2 cents a round or so.

Of course, 7.62 AKs are cool, too.
