Does anyone else see the stupidity of us having a word banned in our hometown due to its supposed offensive and racist nature, yet it is tacked in caps? Maybe I'm knitpicking here but it just seems counterproductive. Why ban a word because we don't want intruders in our private discussion area to be offended and assume all of us Black Rifle owners are racists, then tack it on top so everyone sees it? Plus with the hotheads in here, thats like putting up a target. Its bound to draw fire. I personally don't think its that big of a deal, and technically the rules are the rules . I just don't want to see anymore people getting screwed for a pointless cause. Can't we just go back to picking on 89grand? Or maybe MarkM? Yeah! Everyone likes kicking him around! |

I first remember hearing the word back in college in about 1990. I was an administration of justice major. Lots of our instructors were police officers. The word simply referred to the sound a maglite made when it hit a bad guy over the head. It wasn't directed at any single group or social class. Another common use term was "boys on the hood" which referred to bad guys on the hood of the squad car being searched. This is all I could come up with regard to the word _ _ _ _ being used to describe illegal aliens. www.usdoj.gov/crt/briefs/sipe.pdf I think the whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. |

What a steaming pile of bullshit........ Just about anyone can find some word used in any post on this board that they find "offensive" or "derogotory. I'll bet any descriptive word could be seen as offensive in someones eyes. Short, fat, tall, skinny, black, white...etc...etc... I know people who think "Hoosier" or "Jayhawk" or even Canuck are offensive. We have sports teams with "offensive" names.....redskins, chiefs, etc... The problem is not these words or terms, but rather the hypersensative fools who are offended by simple words. Some say it's about respect, bullshit, respect is earned, not given. I am reminded of a phrase my grandmother taught me.....Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never harm me. It's sad to see things come to this. An honest question for the staff/mods.....where does it end ?? Who determines what is offensive and who's feelings are important enough to have an offensive word acted upon ?? As I said, just about any descriptive term can be offensive, so where does it end ? |

I don't understand how EVERYONE understands the rules as explained by the Avila household, yet people feel the need to stretch the boundaries in an attempt to look clever. There were always people like this when I was a kid, I wouldn't expect a bunch of adults to act this way. We're guests in the Avila house. They've explained the rules. If you don't like the rules, go use your new favorite word in somebody else's house. Or use it here and never have the option again. SIMPLE. |
Can you post the master list of naughty words so we all know which to avoid ? Also, where do we report any words which we are offended by ? Where does it end ? |
I guess obvious racist terms like "honkie" and "redneck" are okay here... but not "that" word which has NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE but everything to do with CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. |
| The point isn't "which words are bad", the point is that there was a very specific request made by EdAvilaSr that some people seem incapable of accepting. If using a particular word is more important than anything else to you, so be it- use it and deal with the consequences. If you can be a grownup about it and respect the wishes of Senior Staff, drop it and move on. |
