During my annual vacation in Tucson, I would shoot in the Redington Pass area. Easy enough; drive up, find a spot and shoot. This year I was told it's now closed to shooting. True? |
I have no problem with gang banger types showing up at shooting areas. The easiest way I have found to do deal with them is simple do a few things. First mix you up a few if not four or more tannerite targets. The next cease fire(yes even gang bangers gave cease fires) go out and set your targets and tannerite targets up. Strike up a conversation with the gang bangers. Ask them just how good of shot they are. All shooters have a tendency to want to demonstrate this . Then you scan the target area and low and behold you spot one of your tannerite targets with the red label. So you then ask the gang banger, hey can you hit that spot of red? They generally say yes. So you say ok go ahead shoot it. The look on their face when they hit it is worth a million bucks. Nine times out of ten they get spooked and leave. A few will ask you what was that. I have learned to reply well this use to be a mining area, maybe the guys working this mine left behind some tnt. |
| I live out by Valencia, but have never been to Desert Trails. Exactly how much do they charge, and where are they located. The only shooting ranges I know of in my area is the big one out on Ajo, and the small one up by the Tucson Mountains, and of course the skeet range. What kind of shooting facilities does Desert Trails offer? |
| DT has like three pistol ranges that can support 6 or more at each range, two have paper targets and one has steel targets. then there is a "sighting in"/ rapid fire tube next to the 100 yd. rifle range. I forget the price i think its around 3 bucks or so for all day? I bought a pass for 100 bucks all year. |

I talked to a forest service official out in Reddington about 6 months ago. He said it was still ok to shoot as long as it wasn't clay birds or glass. They were just concerned with the trash everyone left behind. You guys are right about the tards out there with the SKS's. Squeezeing off 30 rds as fast as possible and not hittin a damn thing but dirt. Never been to Desert Trails. I'd like to check it out though. Heard there's a Tactical Rifle course there sometime in October if I remember correctly. I ususlly go out off of Wilmont south of the prison. Nobody rolls into your spot and shoots your targets. |
