This is no April fool joke. Lotboy and I went shooting out there this morning. When we left a white truck with a Government (G) plate passed us going the other way. Now there is a sign posted just as you turn at the Tall Tower. "STATE TRUST LAND" and written permission required to enter, etc. Sorry, Charlie. |
|
Here is where the sign was put: About 100 yards after you turn at the big tower. I.E. ANYTHING PAST THE SIGN IS NO GO! It wasn't there when we got out there at 1030, but when we left at 1200 it was. Lotboy noticed it and backed the truck up. Sure as shit the sign is there. |
Unless there is a back way to the main pit, there is no denying that it is NO LONGER ACCESSABLE to us. You can't miss the sign. It's bright and white and shiney new. There were no signs at any of the little shooting spots that you drive past off the side of the road when you go out there. The guy apparently just plunked it down there on a bent up sign post on the left side of the road out to the main pit. Maybe it's a goof of some kind, but I saw the white truck. And Lotboy looked back and says there was a "G" plate on it. |
I don't know. It's odd how he put it on this sign post the looks old and bent. But a rational person would assume anything past the sign is restricted. |
|
NNNOOOOOOO it can't close before I ever get to go there! DAMN! We will see how well that sign holds up... heavy.gif -Bobby |
It is before the powerlines! I was talking again with Lotboy last night and he says he saw another sign on the main dirt road back to 60. He didn't mention it when we were driving, however. (you have to know lotboy.. not too bright) |
|
Markm, If you think its closed then fine. Ill keep going there till i am kicked out. Besides it is either on private land or BLM land. I talked to the rancher and he said it was OK, along with the LEO of the area. I don't know what else to say. Also, why would a federal Gov truck be putting up a no shooting sign on state land any way? You said it was a white truck with a (G) plate. MJ |
There's no need to get all vaginal about it. I'm only reporting the facts of the matter. I too am willing to be thrown off the land. But farmer Jenkin's word isn't going to carry much weight after you just drove past a sign saying "written permission required" And YES State and County vehicles sport the G plate too! |
Markm, I apologize. I am kinda pissed at this moment about this whole thing. Yes I was out of line. Please accept this apology. I did not realize that "State" trucks had a "G" plate on them. MJ |
They posted that area about 4-5 years ago. I know the "bent twisted old post" referred to previously, it had one of those signs then. Add: I took some pics in AzStan back in '88, I'll have to see if I can find 'em. |
That sounds good enough for me! And, of course, in true bureaucratic fashion, they don't indicat from whom you need written permission. |
No need to apologize. Perhaps it's just a matter of some evening these signs need to disappear. It's too bad that so many people TRASH the place. I'm sure that is the reason for this. |
|
Great observation tfod! I have a friend, that has a relative that lives out there. They are getting scared of being shot and all the trash left out there. I'm sure they don't have a problem where AZstan is. But other people are going to that area to shoot. Closer to the homes. If you lived out there you might be a little worried yourself. I know I would. The last time I was at AZstan a bunch of mexicans showed up next to us. They drank a case or two Bud-Light and one almost shot another one. After they left, low an behold they forget to take all there trash. So I would have to say, that actions of other people will end up screwing us. |
signs are still there. Funny thing was, on the south side of the road. There was a group of people just past the sign shooting. They wee about 50 behind the sign. Must be blind as a bat to miss it. Kinda surprised they didn't run it over. Dumb Asses, BTW what does a ticket run for that? |

... Here's everything you ever wanted to know about State Trust land use. ... It boils down to this; Is the mine on State Trust or not. www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/rec_offroad_permit.htm |
|
ACTIVITIES NOT ALLOWED on any Trust land under any permit or application: Target shooting, paint ball games, fireworks Non-recreational or extended camping Tours of prehistoric and historic archaeological sites Metal detection, metal detecting to search for artifacts, relics and treasures Collecting or removing of natural products (rocks, fossils, mineral specimens, stone, soil, cacti, saguaro or cholla skeletons, other plants or plant material, live or dead, or firewood for home use |

Use this to zoom in on the area. I don't know the area well enogh to pinpoint the exact location. sco.az.gov/website/arizona/viewer.htm |
I asked a Deputy for Pinal county today. Its a $450.00 fine for trespassing. |
|
If it is State Trust land then it is ALWAYS closed to shooting. ALWAYS. State land is off limits to the public with the exception of licensed hunters in a designated season, and persons to whom the land may have been leased. Federal land is managed for multiple use, State Trust is not. Arizona State Trust land is managed for the profit of those developers who are waiting to subdivide it as soon as the city grows out far enough. |
|
Has anyone been able to use this to confirm if it is Trust land or not? sco.az.gov/website/arizona/viewer.htm |

Hate to say it, but I was stuck working in Scottsdale all day today. Will have to hit BLM office next week. They close around 4:30pm on weekdays. I'll make sure I get to the BLM office next week. It's on 7th Ave just South of Deer Valley Airport. Just across the road from Robar. Can you say $6,000.00 .50BMG? Robar can. |
