No luck this afternoon. I had a group of five deer circling me the last hour or so, always too far for a shot due to trees/thicket. One of the larger doe kept ratting me out. I tried to hide my scent with some urine from yesterday's buck, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Oh well, it was a beautiful day out. Here's the view from my one stand.

The only thing I got Monday was wet and cold. I did see 4 at 200-250 yards, but between the rain and the fog, I didn't have enough time to even glass them and identify doe from buck before they disappeared again.

Monday was brutal for me in Mahoning County on our farm.
I hung in there through all the bullshit rain even though I connected with a doe at 930AM. Saw four doe including the one in the barn all day.

Tuesday the snow was a big welcome.

Saw a coyote first thing peeling the field to the south and 11 does throughout the rest of the day.

My brother got this one yesterday.
I'm to lazy to go anymore
He gets a nice buck almost every year. Normally with a bow.

My 15 year old niece got her first deer today.  I couldn’t be happier for her and her dad.  She first got into shooting at 10 with her first 22lr, and she has grown into a really good shot.

She shot this doe at 75 yds with a single shot 20ga from a ground blind on my parents farm.

As a someone who doesn't regularly hunt I want to thank all of you taking these road hazards out.

Keep up the great work!

My brother has had 4 of 5 kids out hunting this year and they all love it.  It’s good to see some pay dirt for them so they will fully catch deer fever.

75 yards with a single shot that kicks like a billy goat is a good poke. She did a great job!

Got my 12 year old out with me for today and the next 2 if necessary.  We hunt a beautiful 500 acre farm and pulled in last night to see 20 deer in a field.  Only saw one buck about 20 minutes before shooting time.
My wife's uncle got a nice 8 point and a coyote.  I heard 2 shots about 30 seconds apart and thought he missed.  He said the deer dropped from his first shot and the coyote came running in and started prancing around and yipping.  Poor thing thought he was getting a free meal.

Saw two big bucks, both at least 10’s, about 400 yds out on adjacent land that I don’t have permission on.  Hopefully they’ll circle back and come over this way.

Haven’t heard a shot.

I have a story for ya...

A buddy I work with lives down Chillicothe, his son had been hunting a big buck that he had on camera for quite awhile. Opening day of gun he sees the buck 150yds out heading right for him. He is patient and let’s the buck come in to 100, then 80, trying to close the gap... 60yds, 50yds... BOOM! But the shot isn’t his, it’s a poachers. The big buck dropped on the spot, family members were called, ODNR and the sheriff are called...

After it was all hashed out the poacher (who is a well known shithead in the area) was arrested and ticketed, but the real kick in the nuts was the buck was confiscated as evidence.

That's some bullshit.  Unless it's a trophy buck, he'll only pay a small fine and lose his license for a year.  But what's the loss of a license to a poacher?

Lol. Dude, you’re having the worst luck this year.

I’ll offer up to shoot you a doe if you need one? I have all my tags still and I’m only hunting horns.

First day all week that I didn't see a single deer all day, and it's also the first day that I stayed in the woods from sunrise until close to sunset.

Froze my butt off today, only because I was sitting in a Deerstand the entire day. Save maybe an hour, hour and a half where I slipped around this morning and on my way out of the woods.

They've been hitting the feeder hard though. Have put out over 1000lbs so far, and I bet it's ready for more. Didn't open it today.

What 350 rifle is better?  Ruger American or Winchester xpr?  I'm selling my Marlin 45-70 and switching to 350 for next year.

One of my buddies at work just picked up the XPR and really likes it. I have not shot it yet.

Still haven’t pulled the trigger on switching to a straight-wall gun yet. Why are you switching from 45-70 to 350?

Cheaper ammo, less recoil.  As long as I can make accurate hits out to 200yds then it works perfect for where I hunt.

I told my wife I was selling one gun to buy another and should come out ahead in money.  Maybe I'll keep the 45-70 and still buy a 350.. As of right now I am leaning towards the xpr.

Changed up my strategy after watching a bunch of deer avoiding me and going to the lower field. I baited the hell out of that corner over the past 2 weeks. Corn, deer feed, deer lure bait, molasses, peanut butter, 30 lbs of apples, Alfalfa. It’s like a fucking Golden Corral for deer.

Placed a blind about 125 yrds out watching several crossing points. Tomorrow it is on.

(Probably ain’t gonna see shit)

Good luck all, be safe.

Why didn’t I get a blind years ago?
Heaters on, low at that, no gloves had to that my coat off.
Have my dew and snacks. Can use my tripod.

This is tits. No freezing wind, don’t have to worry about rain. Can set up anywhere, no more searching for trees for a stand.

This would be great deer hunting.  If I had some deer.
