First order of business:
"WELCOME, BROTHER!"
Secondly: we've been here 70+ years (wife and I of 50 years) and it ain't half bad! Kinda muggy in Summer, and snowy and cold in Winter, but all-in-all "Tolerable." Point being: get you a FWD at least and a 4 x 4 at best for the lousy "White Death" each Winter which descends a la "Lake Effect" 'round here. LE=cold Canadian air moves south over moist and open Lake Erie=dumps a lot of snow on us. But, if you live/work in Playhouse Square, mebbe public transport is all you need. I worked near there and it's easy getting 'round East & West sides of town with buses and rapid transits.
Third: Cleveland, aka: "Best Location in the Nation," has got zillions of ethnics here--their foods and beverages are OUT-STANDING! Take your pick. Craft beers (and wines) galore! Decent prices , too.
Fourth: We're at the hub of three Major League medical care facilities, as noted. Me--an old timer--I prefer Cleveland Clinic, followed by University Hospitals ("University" like in Med School teaching,) and then Metro Health.
Fifth: LEO, for the most part, is excellent. Courteous, kind, and professional. Get to know the police on your beat--you'll find 'em having a coffee or such in the local eateries. Most are understanding, but if you give them manure, you will get it back in your face in spades. Law 'n order; important to this old timer.
Sixth: Cultural, artistic, religious, sports--we got it all (and then some!) Severance Center (me loves their Beethoven) and our Art Museum also world-class. Libraries galore. Colleges and universities ditto. Churches and Synagogues of your choosing. Pro ball teams--(go, Indians!), Cavs, Browns, etc.
Seventh: If you're staying any length of time, I'd advise you to start thinking about building up your local "Team." That is, get to know locals before the need arises who can help you in a pinch--decent guys who won't rip you for stuff like auto/truck repair and maintenance, plumbing, wiring, HVAC, docs, dentists, vets--so when the need arises, BAM! you know who to call and get the job done with no bs. Keep your antennae up.
Eighth: Great fishing, hunting and shooting 'round these parts. We hike, camp. fish. Wife rides horses big-time--I clean the stalls while she rides. Western or English--your choice. Me--I hole up with my pack 'o Beagles each fall and go a 'huntin. Just to get out in the cold, crisp air is a blessing. Can't be beat.
Ninth: People are generally ok to excellent, but you'll meet some "ringers." Don't let 'em get you down.
...got any questions, ideas, or beefs, SING OUT! we're here to help!
