Thread in GD got me wondering what happened to legislation proposed last summer or fall to get rid of them. Did it get shot down or is it still a possibility?
Anyone not run one? I do simply because when it comes to vehicle registration or inspection requirements, I've also been "that guy" when it comes to violations. If I took off my front tag, the first time I pulled out of the driveway would be the day there would be front tag enforcement dragnet set up in my neighborhood. |

The first ticket that I ever got was many many years ago as a juvenile, it was for NO front plate. Since it is the law... I've always had one since... What if you decide to stop at the local bar for a cold one after a night of shooting. Do you really want to give the police a reason to pull you over? I don't! |

I read the "police blotter" in our local newspaper for entertainment all the time. It seems like all the arrests for dope, DUI, no DL or other warrants, etc. come from those "innocent" traffic stops for no front plate, no real license plate illumination, expired sticker -- that tiny sticker! -- and missing lights of some sort. These stops are a gold mine to the cops who, don't forget, do this job 'cuz they like to put bad guys in jail and you're just another alfa-hotel on the road.
They just need "suspicious" movement by you or any passenger to start the questioning and searching for "probable cause." Left last Saturday's sandwich baggie in plain sight?! The dog is coming to find your baggie full of grass! If you're not a bad buy why give them an excuse? Even if it's just a 10 minute delay. -- Chuck |

And for what reason would you NOT have the required plate? Same reason I check (by habit) all of the lights on my vehicles about once a week. Turn the lights on when you get out to pump gas, while the gas is pumping, walk around an inspect your vehicle, check the lights, tires, anything loose, hanging or damaged. Much less likely to get harassed, search, inconvenienced, annoyed, ect on the side of the road for 5-10 maybe 30 minutes while they "check you out" Personally I think the requirement is dumb, but I don't drive a $150k car, so I don't care about mounting a plate on the front of it. One more place to proudly display my "Veteran" plate

Anymore... THAT is a reason to be stopped by police. |

I got a ticket for no front plate, on two separate occasions, while parked at a parking meter on the street. I was using a family members car from michigan and took them downtown, when we came out there was a ticket on the windshield for not having a front plate Michigan doesn't have front plates and when I went to fight it the look on the judges face was no one can be this stupid I was pissed because I had to take time out of work and fight it on behalf of my cousin since they had to go back home Also had a cop look in his back mirror see no plate, change lanes and dropped back behind me, when he saw MI plates he sped back up and went on his way I wish they would get rid of it. |

This seems to come up every couple of years. It is reported to be able to save the state over 1 Million dollars a year in material cost if use only one plate.
KY, IN, and several states in the South East only have one plate. Everyone is happy and survives in those states. One argument I heard against one plate is that the sale of vanity plates will decline. That is easy to fix, just give the vanity plate buyers two plates. As much as they charge for the vanity plates, it should not be a deal breaker. |

Last I knew, the legislation was still in the works, just slowly as always. I hadn't bothered to check recently. When I bought a brand new Jeep last yea,r I didn't want to drill holes in the front bumper if I didn't have to. Yep, did some checking, it's still on the slate. It's HB 133. |

I got pulled over on my own street for no front tag. Just got a verbal "suggestion" to get it re mounted. You got pulled over so the man could see if there was anything else worth busting you for.. Not having a front plate is just an easy excuse to stop you when there isn't any other legitimate excuse. It's basically giving up your right to not be stopped for no reason. |

If it was your car, chances are he already had all of your information and your picture in front of him. The front plates are good for other enforcement purposes. It's a lot easier to read the front plates of oncoming traffic than it is to try to read them backwards in your mirror after they pass. Awfully helpful if you're looking for a common vehicle but you do have at least a partial plate. I understand not wanting to drill holes in a new car. |

We got pulled over once for that...but he gave us like a week to get the plate on there, show up at the station with the front plate attached=no ticket. Quoted:

| While on active duty as a Security Forces troop at WPAFB we were briefed to stop and cite people for not having Ohio front plates. They are also great to aim the laser at for speeding! The way we were lead to believe is the state made more on tickets from speed enforcement device's IE: laser or stop light camera's to do away with them, but that was a few years ago. (2010) |

Not that I want to give the power monger any more ideas, but if having a front plate is so instrumental in the safety and well being of their subjects, why arent motorcycles required to display them? Agree, plus what are the statistics on safety of states with front plates vs. no front plates? My guess is 0. I came from PA which amazingly enough doesn't have any front plate requirement (but does have inspections, or did they get rid of that?). |

Cops don't care and will just give a warning if you are polite. The meter maids however eat this shit up. I have received 3-4 no plate tickets, only 1 by meter maid that says otherwise.
