Condos could replace Powell shooting range I guess my "life membership" card I bought in the late 1980s will be real useful now huh. |
Love the first paragraph :
POWELL, Ohio — The Powder Room, a longstanding shooting range that lost nearly 100 guns in a burglary last year — including one that was later used to kill a Dublin gas-station clerk — could be closing to make way for a condominium complex. And then felt the need to bring it up again, before the conclusion: The Powder Room, at 2470 Powell Rd., was the site of a break-in in February 2012. Burglars smashed through a wall of the gun range, stealing 97 guns. Five days later, one of the guns was used in a robbery that left a Dublin gas-station clerk dead. |

They can't make them illegal so they will run campaign after campaign to marginalized those who sell them and use them. The goal will be to make shooting (like smoking) artificially expensive and largely seen as something that good, wholesome people don't engage in. |

I liked their underground range. Nice to have 100yd range protected from the elements... Huh? They have a basement with a 100yd range, has not been open for many years though, think they had some drainage problems. I shot down there once with a black semiauto rifle. The guy who worked there watched me for a while. He thought I was going to pepper the whole range with bullets. He didn't know I could shoot tight groups on target. |

Yeah, I took a Mini Ranch there once to sight in the scope.
They guy asked what ammo/mags I had. When I showed him a couple 5's and a couple 20's, went into a 5 minute lecture (rant) about "If I hear any rapid fire I'll come drag your a$$ out of here". Ah well. Yeah, heard they had some recurrant flooding. Too bad. |

I used the underground rifle range once in the late 1980s; once was enough. I used their pistol range a fair amount for a couple years until New Albany opened 10 minutes from my home. I haven't been back since. Even with state preemption law cities are allowed some latitude in zoning gun stores and ranges. The Powder Room used to be in the middle of nowhere, now it's next to a very expensive neighborhood. Losing 100 firearms to theft and having one of them used in a murder is even more motivation for the city to crack down on them. All those fancy people living in those fancy houses complain to city hall about the range (pick any reason). They moved nearby, what they heck were they thinking. The city is going to pick sides and it's not going to be the range. Did anyone really expect differently? |
| I'm not surprised by this at all. I totally agree those people who bought the houses their knew what they were getting into. There have also been a couple suicides that have taken place at the range as well I'm sure that is something the city isn't thrilled about. The neighborhood that backs up to it is a nice enough one, but its pretty average for the area, and far from the nicest around. |

Quoted: Quoted: Did not know that. I'm only familiar with the guys who currently run the place. I don't go up there often but they have never been anything but nice to me. Where's your license for your silencer?! |

Larry, That little blue card hasn't been worth that much for awhile now based on my experience. Did get the 5% discount on a firearms purchase once. Wonder if it will still work for that? [edited to add] Ok, I'm back now. -- Mike |

The Powder Room is close to me, about 5 minutes.
Have only had one person working there worth talking with. Everyone else was an absolute asshole. It would take days to cough all the lead out of my lungs after only being there for an hour. I won't miss them. Good thing we built a range at my friend's house 20 minutes away. We have a 200 yard rifle range and 50 yard pistol range in his back yard. At least we won't get bitched at for picking up our own brass and doing mag dumps. |
