Never been, Taking my 14 year old son and going to ride some big ass roller coasters.

I had looked into getting a room at the Hotel Breakers and stay for 2 or 3 days. On top of seeming pretty expensive, reading some reviews on different sites gave me second thoughts. Some reviews say it is just the greatest place on earth. Others mention run down, damp, moldy conditions.

Any one know for sure about this place? Any other place near by nicer/cheaper? The hour early entry like Hotel Breakers guests get would be nice as well.

Thanks for any and or all help.

I stayed there once before I was married, that was over thirty years ago.

So, I've got nothing.

Many resort stays have taught me this:

If it's nice, it's expensive.

If it's inexpensive, it's been run down and smells like feet.

If it's somewhere in between, total crapshoot.

I usually look half an hour out along the major interstates for nicer, more affordable lodging. Worth the short drive for better digs that won't break your wallet.

CMP North Store isn't too far down the road.

We have stayed at a B&B about 12 miles from Cedar Point.  Nice and clean, and not too bad cost wise.  Won't get you into the park early though.  If you want I can ask my wife the name of the place.

We went on Fathers day one year when our kids were smaller not knowing about the annual "event" on that day.

Talk about a freak show. I love Cedar point but never again on Fathers day

They have a new deal that you can pay extra for to go to the front of the line for the rides. May be something to look into if you don't like waiting in line. Check out their website for details. I have stayed at the Econolodge at the start of the causeway. Not the best but then again the price was about right for what you got. You'll only be in the room to sleep right?

We've stayed at Breakers before it's nothing special, old and well past its prime.  The last time we stayed the fire alarm went off due to a kitchen fire and everyone filed outside in pajamas.  That lasted at least 30 minutes.  The hour early jump on the crowd is nice, but everyone else staying at CP is doing the same thing.

The best luck we had with crowds was on a day with occasional light showers.  That scared off people that want to be in the hot sun all day.  As soon as we got off a coaster we went right back on.

The Fast Lane option as they call it is another $40/ticket! Yikes!

yeah, i made the fathers day mistake about 10 yrs ago. 10 mins into the park and some guy was in a dress making out with another guy. not my idea of "family friendly". each to his own, i just care not to see it.

I suggest staying at the Sandcastle Suites hotel.  It's on the northeast corner of the park and doesn't have the "party" atmosphere that exists at the Breakers.  I had zero complaints when I stayed there 3-4 years ago, the room was in top condition.

Yes it's expensive but quite a treat if spending 2+ days at the park.  Obviously it's convenient to walk to your hotel at the end of the day, also the early hour at the beginning of the day was a nice bonus, but the thing I enjoyed the most was going to the hotel in the middle of the day for a couple beers in the room and an hour at the hotel pool.  We then walked back to the park completely refreshed and recharged on a hot day.  That was soooo nice!

Breakers is dumpy, but it is convenient.

I think the next time I head up that way for an overnight, I'm staying elsewhere.

That's pretty much what I've been reading on line. May take the advice above and stay at Sandcastle Suites hotel. Looking around the web, it looks and sounds nicer.

The Breakers is a very nice place but you MUST STAY IN THE "TOWER".  That is the new part.(10 STORIES).
Also look into "Sand Castle Suites" that is also on the point (in the park) and VERY NICE.
The "Breakers EXPRESS" is just off the point and nice. (New 3 story hotel owned and operated by CP).
"Cast Away Bay" is a large hotel and indoor water park...also just off the point (Also very nice and close).

Nice work!  You will be pleased unless they have gone seriously downhill in the past couple years.

I'm telling you, the midday break alone makes it worthwhile!  Enjoy...

Look forward to the AAR.

Take some pix and let us know how you like it. The Sandcastle place, not CP.

We used to go at least once a year. My wife always gets free nights at the cheaper places on her credit card. Just a place to sleep for the night so we can relax and eat somewhere and not worry about the 3 hour drive home. Hell, my ex wife and I used to stay at a little camp ground down the road. It was like $10 or $15 for a tent lot at the time. I've never stayed in any of the fancy places.

As for CP. Have fun. Just be prepared, you will be standing in lines anywhere from 1 to 3 hours each, even during the week. When it comes to eating in the park, your best bang for the buck is up front. I don't know what it's called but it's just to the left as you come in the front gate. It's a flat price buffet with refills on your drinks. Sit down in the air conditioning, relax, and stuff your face while a waitress re-fills your drinks.

Scrampop... How was your Sunday trip with your friend. You never did talk about it. Was it a hand full or a mouth full?

July 4th is really a good time to go also.  Longest wait in line we had a few years ago was about 20 minutes for the Top Thrill Dragster.  Many coasters, the kids would ride, hop off, run right back in line, and wait for maybe 2-3 cars.

Normally the week of Independence Day is when they set record attendance.  When I worked there, they wouldn't even let the employees park on site, we had to bus it in.

I'm not discounting what you said, it's just not the norm.

Got back last night. Had a good time, but we are all beat. It seems three days at CP is more than enough for even early teens.
Sandcastle Suites was nice, the room was smaller than it looked online, but clean and comfortable.

That first picture brought back some good memories for me. When I worked there in the late 90's, one of my jobs was to spray the sand off of the boardwalk with a garden hose.  I would set up at around 9:30 so I could watch all of the fine young ladies make their way to the beach. The paycheck was shitty, but it was the best job I've ever had.

Great pictures, glad you had a good time.

Ed, did you ride the Top Thrill Dragster yourself?    Love that ride, but it makes me nervous every time I get on it.  My first time on it ever, I was in the front seat, and just as were getting ready to go it started to rain ever so gently.  It felt like being pelted in the face with rocks.

Medic, which coaster is that?  Do you maintain the rides, or was that training for medical services to stuck riders?

That's the Breakers. We stayed at the Sandcastle Suites, but they didn't have access to the  beach with a swimming area, so we walked down to the Breakers.

Oh hell yeah I rode it half a dozen times over the three days we were there. The first time was educational. I had my eyes wide open and when we hit top speed my eye lids started fluttering uncomfortably in the wind. I squinted the other times and had no further eye lid flap.

Cool pic Medic. If you are an emergency responder for the park, I'm just as glad I didn't see you there.
Looks like The Mean Streak you're on. That one is just a little too rough for my old bones. Those quick, sharp little drops near the end killed my back. I rode it once. That was enough.

My wife and kids are there today. I just spoke to her on the phone. Sunny, and low 80's. About a 15 minute wait for any ride. A perfect day to be there. To top it off, we got the tickets through the UAW for $27.00/ea.

Yeah, our first day there was on a Tuesday, low 70s, sunny and clear. Small crowd early, short lines. Definitely the way to go.
