Will the new ccw law improvement help get more states to join in reciprocity with Ohio?  PA,TX, GA?

nope

In a nutshell: No.

The issue at the heart of reciprocity is training requirements. States such as Ohio that require a 12 hr training regimen often will not enter into agreements with states that do not have mandatory training requirements.

Reciprocity is one of the main reasons why states like Arizona that have constitutional carry still have a permitting system.

Well horseshit.

I was looking at KY reciprocity map and became curious.  Their training requirements are similar to ours, but they have reciprocity with those states I mentioned in the OP.

I'd like to be able to drive all the way to FL with my firearm......

Get a PA non-resident permit and you're good to go all the way to FL...TX as well...assuming you don't hit MS or AL.

Well hell...PA doesn't do CCW applications via mail any longer (as of March, 2011).

It may be worth the drive, however.  The other option is to get a New Hampshire or Utah non-resident permit.  NH is pretty expensive these days and doesn't cover TX.  Utah will get you pretty much everything you need (unless you travel to NH on a regular basis like I do.)

I  drove to Erie PA last Tuesday to renew my non resident permit. It was easy, took less than 30 min and cost 20 bucks.

Chuck, that wasn't me who made the drive to renew.  Personally, I'm debating whether it's worth the drive or if I should just go the Utah route.

What's wrong with Florida?  That's what I plan to do.

Nothing, but it's a bit expensive and a bit of a hassle with the fingerprint card, etc.

FL does require fingerprint cards but is probably the most complete route.  But it takes months.  Utah is popular with PA residents as it allows them to carry in OH, but requires a UT certified instructor.

PA used to be two weeks by mail (I've had mine since before Ohio had CHL) but new applications and renewals now require a personal visit.  Not sure when mine expires but I'll probably renew it as I get over into PA quite often.

PA issues licenses to non-residents but doesn't have a Non-Resident Permit to my knowledge.  Just looks like all the rest.

You can carry in PA with your NH permit which is still just a check and a copy of your Ohio CHL.
