Maybe it's just me but it seems like these shows are less about guns and more about ammo and accessories. The AR selections are getting better, but unless you want an AR or old russian rifle there just isn't shit to look at. It seems like over half the tables are nothing but ammo, reloading, and accessories.
Several months ago I was looking for a Remington 700 30.06. I found 2, both top dollar. My brother was looking for a Saiga. He found 1, it was top dollar. I recently starting looking for a Savage .22 and found nothing. What happened to the days when dealers showed up with half thier inventory and the tables are full of rifles. There was a time dealers of Remington, Winchester, Savage, Marlin and every other brand you can think of showed up at these shows. I don't want to spend $8.00 and several hours of my time, elbow to elbow looking at ammo. I want to see some guns. All I wanted to do was vent a little. I feel better now. |

I think of Goodmans more as entertainment than anything else...All I typically purchase there are ammo and reloading supplies than local dealers don't carry. It can be a fun people watching experience.
If a person is new to the gun world, and wants a handgun, it is a good place to touch and feel alot of handguns. Other than that, it is mostly a people watching event. |

Many year ago OGCA was a great gun show. It would take a good part of the day to look at all the tables.Back in the day at The Cincinnati Gardens the show was huge and the tables where full. The Dayton show was held around the back in the large section of O'hara. |

I moved here not too long ago and went to a goodman show in Cinci (was at Target World anyways) and went to a show in WIlmington.
The Goodman show was a HUGE dissapointment. I actually felt cheated out of my $8. The room is TINY and there are more boxes of surplus ammo and $200 Mosin Nagants and 870's than you can shake a stick at. I went in looking for 3 specific firearms and found none of them, at either show. I'm done with Ohio gunshows. |

If you're going to a gun show looking for a deal on a gun, you're going to be sadly disappointed.
With the advent of internet sales, and websites like Gunbroker, most small dealers can't afford to sell at the prices you can get off the net. Work on your internet-fu, and find what you want for much cheaper (even after paying shipping and transfer). It may take some looking, but the deals are there. As far as attending gun shows goes; I still go. It's more a combination of an excuse to get out of the house, and every once in a while I see something that peeks my interest. To each his own though, I guess. |

In the last 2 years I have bid on 2 rifles with no bid activity or reserve and then the auction ends because "They sold it at their store" or " no longer available". I bid on a Taurus PT709 until the guy quoted $60.00 for shipping and insurance. Needless to say I retracted my bid. I have found some good deals on Auctionarms.com. |

Generally, I dont go there for guns, some ammo, some parts (when the parts dealers bother to show up) but as mentioned earlyer, the people watching can be a riot. It's been a few years since I have the seen the cowboy and his cowgirl at a show. I think she was a truck driver. Anybody know if they are still around? |

Cowboy Troy and his hoe have been to most every show I have been at lately. Just seeing them is almost worth the $8.00. They should start a freak show. They were at the Medina show a month or so back. First time I saw them - Im pretty sure were talking about the same couple, kinda hard to miss |

Bill Goodmans was the place to buy ammo about 20 years ago.
Unless you look for private sellers it is almost a complete rip off. Last time I went was last year, walked in with 600.00 and left with 600.00. I don't mind paying a little extra but 180 for a tin of 5.45 is ridiculous. It isnt a gun show its a newb show for those who don't know what the value of things are. |

Ask crazy prices and try to get newbs to pay the high prices to get it right now - no waiting for internet purchases. |

If I see a deal, or something I like, I consider it a win. Oh, and occasionally there is a bit of 'scenery' |
| Many moons ago late 80's thru early 90's I had my FFL and a shop. I could not compete with the deals at Goodman show's. They were happy to mark their guns up $10 each and sell a truck load. Shortly after I gave up my place and license then they started jacking their prices up. I go a couple times a year just for shits and grins. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Between my LGS and the net I can beat their prices by a bunch all day long. Kind of makes me wish I never turned in my license. |
