I am looking to buy a half or a whole beef.  Anyone have any preferred butcher shops within 60-80 miles of Columbus?

My dad found a couple places that range from $2.19-$2.50 per pound for roughly 350lbs per half.

You can contact Country Fresh Foods and get beef, pork, poultry, fish and other flash frozen foods delivered in 6 month quantities.  I've used them for 3 years and really like their products and service.

I cannot help you to find a local butcher. But have you giver any thought to finding a local farmer that's raises the steer. And buy from him?? They tend to know where they can have the animal butchered and then you know that your getting good quality farm raised BEEF.

There other thing is buying from a 4-H sale at the local co. fair. Here you are buying the BEST beef you can get your hands on. Plus you make a kids day. Last summer we bought the Rev. Champ Caracas steer at our local co. fair. I paid $3.00 a lb and he was 810 hang. wt.

(Caracas class for those that don't know. Is where the judge the animal after its been slaughtered.)

Now you have the processing fee also. (385.00) that's was my butchers price. ( .43 a lb plus the 36.00 Kill charge) .

And that steer grade USDA Prime PLUS. and let me tell you. He's is a great eater.

BTW, By buy a 4-H animal anything that you pay over the fair market value on that time can be used as a tax right off.

Fair market price at that time was about 2.00 a lb. And I paid 3.00. So there's another $810.00 gift from the IRS that I'll be more than happy to take.

I company buys it all. So to take in the free advertising at the fair and the Ohio Farm and Dairy Paper.

So there's a few ideas that might help.
