A buddy of mine said he bought a $1200 AK-47 at target world. Is there such a thing?
Seems kind of high but then again I don't know much about AK's.

From Target World there probably is. I haven't seen anything that comes close to a deal in that place.

Any idea what kind it was? That seems really high unless it was something fairly rare.

To be that high it should have to be a Polytech or Norinco. But at Target World it might have been a hogged out WASR10 or a Romanian SAR. I did see a version of a Krink AK there a couple of weeks ago but I don't know the manufacturer is or the price of it.
The funny thing is that the prices at Target World are ridiculous and the staff sometimes seems to be lost, but they somehow manage to sell a lot of guns.

Been there a couple times and it seemed as if EVERYTHING was way OVERPRICED.

A while back they sent me a flier for some type of sale. I had been looking at a certain gun which they had been overpriced on before. I figured what the hell, I'll go see if they get back into the real world with their sale price.

The sale price was $10 MORE than it was before the sale......

Back before the renovation I would deal with Charlie up there. Got a few pretty decent deals. I haven't seen him in years, and ever since the renovation I will buy nothing at those prices from them.

I quit going to Toilet World a long while back because of the complete lack of safety on the target range. They obviously don't give a crap what people do in there. I'm firmly convinced that anything short of a shooting rampage that spills onto the showroom floor wouldn't get the staff's attention (and even then it's iffy).

But the prices at the counter are just as good of reason not to go there. They are always very high compared to the real world. They make a living ripping off the casual gun buyers who don't shop elsewhere or the ninja-wannabe's who get kicked out of other stores.

I wouldn't even waste my time going in the place.

Check out Oneshot, Shooters Supply in Loveland or even the Old Milford Gun Store. They'll take far better care of you and the prices are much more realistic.

+1 on that! I've dealt with all three and would recommend them all.

When was the renovation?  Has it been in the past year?

Joe C. is a great employee there.  He really knows his shit about AR's.  I really recommend him.

Not sure of the exact date of the reno; probably been 5 years, give or take.

Charlie came when the place was bought in 1999.  The expansion took place in 2003.  Charlie is still the manager there, but will no longer deal with the public.

Joe C., CJ or the old man Jim B. are the three to deal with, but they are not allowed to move on the prices at all.

I refuse to do business with them.

I called once to ask if they had 7.62*39 headspace gauges and if they would be willing to check the headspace on my newly built AK.

Instead of replying kindly, the clerk questioned me. "WHAT!? You built your own AK!? Sorry can't help you... click"

I have had other rude interactions with them before, but that was the last staw.

Oh, another +1 for One-shot, great crew of guys in there. Knowledgable, friendly, and fair prices.

Used to live in Dayton; I rented a few guns at Target World's range, tried them out, decided what I wanted...

then bought somewhere else. TW's prices are just silly. Don't know who buys there...

Try Peabody Sports up in Kettering, or Olde English Outfitters over by the Dayton Airport. Or just "call a buddy, bring a friend..."

Dayton area FFLs are pretty much awful.
