Well, it finally happened, I was pulled over in Montgomery County by a State Patrol while carrying my XD-40. Mind you that I have been driving for over 30 years and while it's been about 7 years since I've been ticketed, each and every time I have been pulled over I have received a ticket. I've never been given a warning until NOW ! I informed the officer when he walked up to my truck that I had a concealed carry and that I was carrying. He asked to see my carry license along with my drivers license. He said that he pulled me over due to my speed and this "Warning" should serve to slow me down and that I was free to go. I wonder if he gave me a warning because if my carry license? Remember, that every time up until now I was given a ticket. Who Knows... |
You got luckey. I got a big fat ticket the only time I've been pulled over since getting my CHL. I must say that the guy was polite and didn't give me any shit. one of the nicest guys that have ever walked up to my window. I did deserve it though. 90ish in construction.

I have heard several others state that they got warnings or lowered speeds on their tickets, I know I did. Was doing 78 got written for 63. The officer was very polite and gave me a critique on how I handled the stop, and told me that he appreciated me trying to put him at ease. I have to suspect that if you made a boo-boo on how you informed the officer, they would not be quite so polite. |

I know I've got a heavy foot and am used to getting 1 or more speeding tickets a year. Since getting my carry license a couple years ago I have noticed while I get pulled over just as often I have gotten ticketed half as often and the traffic stops take less time. Yes my insurance rates are high and no I don't care. |

I got pulled over on I70 just west of Dayton a few months back. I was carrying (per my FL non-resident permit) and informed the officer immediately. The whole tone of the officer changed. He actually seemed more relaxed. He wanted to know where it was (at the time, locked in the glove box per Ohio's former screwed up rules) and that was that. He ran my license and registration and then came back with a warning for following too close. He even talked guns for a few minutes whilst he finished his paperwork. Why was I following too close? I saw the cop well in advance (radar detector) and slowed down to the speed limit. The car in front of me slowed down to 50 MPH and I had to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting them. When we passed the trooper I was a little close but also a little unhappy that the guy had slowed down so much. I should have just passed him and gone the speed limit and I probably would not have been pulled over. Anyway it was good experience with the Ohio Troopers. |

I've gotten 9 tickets in Ohio (Lorain and Warren counties). In contrast to where I live now (NY) the cops were courteous, didn't take forever, and never let me off. In NY and NJ, they hassle me, yell at me, call me an asshole (really), and usually let me off. I prefer the latter, frankly. |

Here is a funny one. Monday I'm driving home from work on 75 and I'm going just below 75 in the rear of a large pack. We began to spread out so I was bout 30 feet from the car in front of me. A motorcycle mounty comes beside my truck and looks at me...then again and again..etc.... When I finally look at the moron, he yells "SLOW DOWN"...I looked down and I was going 70mph...?...On 75???....Isn't the average speed on 75.....75? So, I slow down to 65 and he tears off like a bat outta you know where. Some are good guys and others are nazis with badges..... |
If you didn't get a ticket, what was so bad? |
Well, what was so bad is that he and I ended up going to the same place and he never once went below 75mph which was where I was at when he screamed at me. It just sorta peved me off. |
