Not too sure if this has been discussed.  I did a brief scan of the topics and saw nothing.

The Ohio Department of Health mentioned a couple weeks back that Ohioans should have a plan for their families in case of an out break of pandemic strain of modified bird-flu.  The interview I heard, on Public Radio (no less) said you should be prepared for a period of up to 8 weeks without contact with the rest of the population.

8 weeks people

That's a along time.  If it happened right now I am more or less prepared and I know at least some of you are as well.  I am doing a little bit more the next couple of weeks to beef up my home's kit.

Here is the web link to the State's download guides...which are not all THAT helpful, but they have some things we may or may not have thought of, including, I think, one of the best suggestions...help the community if you can.  There are also guides for Businesses.  I know some of you are SBOs and they might help out a little bit.

So discuss it with your neighbors.

www.odh.ohio.gov/alerts/influenza1.aspx

Sorry if that came across in anyway a bit fearful, but everyone seems to have the opinion that its no longer a matter of if but when.  It could never be an issue here in Ohio or even  most of the United States, but it could.

My biggest worry is deciding if my future wife and I should stay put where we are or go down to the farm and get away from the Urban cannibals.

Now, for the end of the world speech.

If things go into the crapper completely, civilization will be rebuilt in North Bend, OH.

It may end up all being nothing, but I want to make sure you all are aware...

Don't forget the water either. Two gallon/day per person will add up. That's about 112 gallon each person in your family for the 8 weeks. Many and maybe most of us don't have a well and if the Flu hits, most will run out of water in a few days. I am no where near ready for 8 weeks or more.

Do the "authorities" really think that people will prepare for bird flu?  Health says 8 weeks huh?  I've read that the feds are saying up to a six-month quarantine if this gets going human to human (H2H).

How many folks could afford to stay home for 8 weeks, let alone 6 months?  What about your job?  How many folks have anough saved to make the monthly payments for 2-6 months without going to work, not to mention that their job won't be there after they decide to go back?

To me... this whole thing is unfathomable.  If it hits H2H, we may just all be screwed (or dead).  I am not sure how you can prepare for this if it hits us.  Maybe just prayer.  Anybody else having the same thoughts?

My survival plan is simple.
My goal is to be better armed than anybody else.
That way I can just take whatever I need from the less-armed.
This news just means I have to buy even more and bigger guns!
It's a good plan.

Upping prep level now.  Respirators are incoming on the BBT.  30-06 reloading is going into high gear (the M1 does my talking when the SHTF).  Stockpiling water and food.  Might want to change the financial position to increase liquidity.

ETA: Need to lay into some more 9 mm Para.

So, in Europe and Asia, where the bird flu is already in place, everyone is holed up in their house for 6 months?

Wow, I didn't see anything about it on CNN.  Those lying bastards!

If it goes human to human, and you live in an urban area, you are as f----d as if an asteroid had hit.  Unless a vaccine can be distributed quickly (aint gonna happen).

However, there will likely be several small "regional" panics caused by misinformation and small minded local politicians, which means the nobody may deliver groceries to the chains for several days at a time until someone from CDC can shag their butts out to give an all-clear.  So a set-back of food and water is likely a good idea, just so your are not too inconvenienced by the stupidity of the general population.

My take on the bird flu it that we are FINALLY going to get to do something about the damn GEESE that have taken over every golf course and office parking lot in America.  Think about it.  Every time you walk past one of those stupid birds, you think "I bet I could take him with a head shot from my .22 from 50 yds",  or  "man, I sure would like to tee that f-----s head up with a 9 iron".  Admit it, you know you want to.  Bird flu is going to mean open season on these honking crap factories.  Wooot.

I'd love nothing more to set up a blind on a park or golf course and shoot as many damn Canade geese as I can.

Hell, I'll ground-swat the fuckers if that's what it takes.

Hey Geezah, what's that?  London after the flu?  Are those scenes from that BBC movie about the outbreak?

Talk about a country full of sheeple........

28 Days Later, great SHTF movie that is almost believeable given the zombies aren't dead but infected with a disease called Rage.
If I remember correctly, they filmed allot of the scenes in London at like 5am to beat the traffic.

Old thread, but ODoH has taken down all that info...

Now there is a downloadable PDF for the "ODH Pandemic Influenza Preparedness & Response Plan" (2nd Draft in the news section)...main page.
