Found this on packing.org, typical vague Ohio weapon law BS:

Ohio's knife laws are very vague and the links below are lacking in detail. Its important to realize that each individual municipality or local government can enact more strict restrictions on knives. (This area will be cleaned up soon)

§ 2923.11. Definitions.
As used in sections 2923.11 to 2923.24 of the Revised Code:

(J) "Ballistic knife" means a knife with a detachable blade that is propelled by a spring-operated mechanism.

§ 2923.12. Carrying concealed weapons.

(A) No person shall knowingly carry or have, concealed on his or her person or concealed ready at hand, any deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance.

§ 2923.20. Unlawful transaction in weapons.

(A) No person shall:

(3) Manufacture, possess for sale, sell, or furnish to any person other than a law enforcement agency for authorized use in police work, any brass knuckles, cestus, billy, blackjack, sandbag, switchblade knife, springblade knife, gravity knife, or similar weapon;

1974 Committee Comment to H 511
An ordinary pocket knife that is not possessed, carried or used as a weapon is not a "deadly weapon" under RC § 2923.11(A)

this is what I have been told also,  similiar to butterfly knives.   you can collect, not carry.  With exception to LE/mil.

is in own at your house?,, yes.. but not carry.

butterfly knives are NOT agenst the law, and long as it carried open or a small enough blade.

Blade length must be less than 3 inches.
And if you get pulled over,   having it within reach is considered "carrying a concealed weapon", unless its below the 3 in. rule.
So make sure you transport said knife IN THE TRUNK.  Never within your reach and viewable by an officer...
I've had an unpleasant mistake/experience with this situation once...

Did that person tell the officer about the blade before he searched the wallet?

The average citizen be damned if he tries to give himself the upper hand should he have to use deadly force against someone trying to hurt him

You can own autos in Ohio......just don't carry them. There is no ban on owning one in Ohio that I could find [or any cop I have asked to look]. But law covering CCW is very vague when it comes to knives. Also many local laws do ban autos, balis and "one hand opening knives" so be safe and don't carry an auto as a EDC. The Fed only bans interstate buying of auto knives not owning them, which is why most auto makers won't ship to private buyers [benchmade as an example] But you can purchase them at gunshows all day long.

I have my Ohio CCW and carry a 3-1/2" spring assisted pocket folder daily, when I'm working and can't carry my pistol. I use the pocket clip so it isn't "concealed". If I can LEGALLY carry a pistol COMPLETELY concealed, can I carry my knife in plain sight?

Any informed LEO types out there??

Under state law, the Ohio Revised Code, there is ABSOLUTELY NO BLADE LENGTH RESTRICTION!.

Any blade length restrictive laws will be unique to municipalities only, and will vary.

There is not any "larger than the palm of my hand" crap law either.  Imagine the field day the appelate courts would have with two LE's with different builds/hand sizes evaluating the same blade.  Bigger than one officers, smaller than anotehrs.

Possession is not illegal under stae law.  Per ORC, as shown, there are transactions prohibited.

Intent of use is the deciding factor usualy, as well as why LE finds out about you having something sharp and pointy anyway. Carrying a "tool" is notthe same aa carrying a "weapon".  Understand that, and you may save yourself some hassle.

And, the CCW laws only cover firearms, not edged weapons.

I was charged with CCW, and it was for a knife in my car-within my reach-during a stop. (fixed 5in. blade) This was in feb. or so of this year.

I just checked the ORC on the onlinedoc site...there were several repeals in the code.

It may be just me, but things look a little different in the definitions of "weapon" from what they were back in Feb.

Is it considered NOT a Concealed Weapon if the pocket clip is used and it is in "plain sight" ???
