Depends on who you talk to. According to the wording of the law(s), law enforcement is exempt from many of the restrictions on carry. The following paragraph (or one substantially like it) is a part of almost every section of the law regarding concealed carry: "This section does not apply to officers, agents, or employees of this or any other state or the United States, or to law enforcement officers, authorized to carry concealed weapons or dangerous ordnance and acting within the scope of their duties." However, the State Attorney General apparently has a reading comprehension problem. According to an opinion he published, he has determined that off-duty law enforcement officers are subject to the same restrictions as CCW holders - including the stupid "plain view" requirement in vehicles, and the "no weapons" posted businesses. Dave BTW - I think the "plain view" requirement in vehicles, and the "no weapons" posted businesses are stupid no matter who your are, whether a cop or not. If you have a concealed weapon, keep it concealed! Problem solved. |
Don't just stop patronizing the shop, make sure that you contact the owner/management. If you have copies of your receipts/invoices for the last year, send copies along with a letter explaining why you can no longer be their customer. |
| Even better, organize a group of like-minded biker gun nuts and all of you ride up to the shop, then point out the sign and walk away. THAT will likely get someone's attention. I know that many of the folks at http://www.freeridersclub.org are gun enthusiasts, and they even offer CCW training in a banner ad on their home page. |
Maybe I can just stop by after the next soot at swingset's place. I have not really spent enough to send receipts (not enough problems with the bike). I do plan to talk to the owner when I pick up my other parts, but I am not optimistic after my last experience. Thanks for the comments everyone and if you deal with this place please tell them how you feel. I got the idea that I was the sole opponent of the sign in the shop.
