I'm looking for a new job and through my searches found "code enforcement officer".
Looked up a couple of YouTube videos and I got the jist of what it's like. But I figured I'd come here and ask. If you guys know about the job then please do tell. Otherwise opinions are welcome. |
| Im assuming you mean in building code enforcement? Building inspector, basically. My father was a building inspector for about 30 years for LA city, LA County and City of Hawthorne. Just retired last year. Loved loved loved the job but it now requires a shit ton of certifications. I can give you any info you need about it if we are talking about the same thing |
| Code inspector has to do with the enforcement of municipality codes related to property. Vehicle abatement on private property which violates local codes, lots of interactions wih transients/recyclable theives/etc. homes with dangerous or unsafe living conditions. It'll be a dirty job, but not an unenjoyable one. Lots of the issues are civil and not criminal in nature. Expect it to be tough, busy, and dirty. |

And very much resented by the cited parties who will see you as "the man" infringing on their perceived right to not maintain their yards and grow their own junk yards. On the other hand, some neighbors will appreciate you VERY much. |

The BTK killer was one. If your interested in becoming a serial killer or the local yard Nazi (same difference to the people that don't like yardwork), go for it. It will probably be a thankless job, but bills got to be paid. Never heard of the btk killer. But was it the job that drove him to it? Seriously though, if it saves just one child's life, I should be the best sheriff of naughtingham I can be.

| I had two code enforcement officers come to my house to tell me that a large trash bin that I rent needed to be put up in my driveway rather than simply leaving it out on the side of the street. At first the meeting was tense as the female attempted to be a bit aggressive with my wife in threatening her with a ticket and such. The male officer simply watched. The thing that was funny was the attempt to be all "tactical" with all of the bells and whistles without the gun and body armor. Truthfully, I could not be mad and in the end I cooled down when she cooled down and we both ended up being professional with one another. I had to "remind" her that her approach sucked and that maybe if she did not try to intimidate others then she would have gotten a better response initially. Yes, a thankless job but necessary. It did get me to put up the trashcan. |
