Thordsen Customs makes what they call an Ultimate Bilateral Magazine Lock (UBML). Does anyone here have one? How is it?
Youtube video showing UBML use It is a "bullet button" type device that locks the magazine into the mag well. It requires a tool to remove the magazine, so it should be California legal. It allows magazine release from either the left side or the right side. It works by pushing in on a button with some tool. They also make a small stud that fits thru your magazines so the new mag can release the old and release can be done with either hand from either side. These devices all look very cool but the proof is in using them. Has anyone used one? UBML parts Drill and tap jigs for installation of UBML ETA - this is NOT an advertisement. They are questions about a product from which I felt people in California could benefit. I thought some of you might know something about these before I spend my money. |

Looks pretty interesting. I am concerned about having to drill and tap out the holes on the side of the receiver but it does make magazine changes easier. There is a very good video on Youtube. It's quite long and very detailed. It shows the proper use of their drill and tap jigs which ensure high quality holes in the receiver. This was interesting enough to me, that I watched the entire video. Link to Installation video The cost of the parts plus the cost of the jigs raises the price to over $100. Still, it remains of interest. Here's the clinker in my situation regarding this particular rifle. For that same amount, $100, I can replace the stock with an FRS15 stock. This would allow me to use a regular magazine release and I can use my high cap magazines in the rifle. With a conventional stock and pistol grip, I am limited to 10 round magazines and need a tool to release them.

hmmm that's pretty cool for you right handed folks. Used in conjunction with the already-installed Bullet Button on the right side, the UBML makes this functionality ambidextrous - there is a push button on both sides. This is very handy if one hand/arm is injured or, in my case, two different family members have opposite handedness. |
