This may sound silly coming from a California native, but I didnt know ANYTHING about guns before i joined the army.  now that im going back, I am in virgin territory for me lol.

Are there shooting matches or private clubs in california?  I know here in texas, my town of 30k people has a BIG group and we have a lot of fun doing unofficial IDPA type matches but all the info I hear from other ex-californian's is that matches arent a monthly or biweekly thing like they are here, there will be one in this city this month, one in this other city next month...etc.

the group i belong to has about 200 members, (usually dont get more than 60 at a shoot though) and the guys in charge own about 20 AR500 steel plates that they set up in all kinds of positions for us to engage.  Everybody has to be in the NRA just to get in the club too lol.  Anybody have something like this in California?  Preferably in the Inland Empire???

My local range in Ridgecrest has a very active SASS component, and just finished their NRA certified 600 yard range.  They do matches at least once a month.  IM me your email addy if you like, and I'll have them add you to their announcements.

Have a look on the California Rifle and Pistol Club website. There's normally a couple pages covering the matches and competitions in their magazine.

CRPA Event Calendar

There are clubs but since there's so much free and open space stretching out wide and far we're not mandated to shoot a club like is nearly required in Texas.

My local club for a packed meet-n-greet.

In which area will you be living?

Off the top of my still-sleepy head:

Rifle - Lytle Creek, Santa Margarita GC (Camp Pendleton),...

Pistol - Raaague's,...

There uses to be a SASS group out of Pala, I recall they shared the range with several other groups.

Lytle Creek is about 35 miles, as the crow flies.  Raahague's is even less than that.

Camp Pendleton (Santa Margarita Gun Club) is about 40 miles, as the crow flies.

There are other clubs, too.

There are a TON of USPSA matches in CA.  I was just down there and shot at Richmond.  USPSA.ORG has the match calendar.

I don't go any of them.  I'm just trying to provide the information you requested.

I've been to Pendleton in years past.  The matches they run there are top-notch.  They have across the course rifle (200, 300, 600 yd), midrange rifle (600), long range rifle (1000 yd) and bullseye pistol matches.

They are on the base.  The pistol matches, across the course and mid range rifle matches are held on the Wilcox Range.  The long range events are on the new range (name eludes me right now, possible Range 107?).

The matches are on the base.  There is a High Power match this Saturday and a 3x600 Mid Range match this Sunday.  Both days are at Wilcox Range, Range 103.

On 4-5,6-14 there will be 1000 yard matches on Range 117.

On 4-19-14 there will be a pistol match on Range 116.

Go to www.smgunclub.org to pre-register and to get directions.
