Well I posted a Month or so ago about my son being brought home in a CHP vehicle. Well a week ago my son went through the CHP Explorer Level III program at the West Sacramento CHP Academy. Kids from ages 16 to 21 from through out California attended. Over 60 Explorers started, and only 43 graduated. He will attend next summer again for Level III again and Level IIII, he has to be age 20 for this. This will include Driving and shooting range and other training. I really like the Professionalism and Courtesy they receive from the Officers.

There is a 90 % graduation rate for Explorers going through the Academy to be come Officers, while only a little over 40 % for those that have not. They gave him a DVD of the week there this weekend at his weekly training, so I posted it on Youtube. Being the very proud dad I am, thought I'd share it. Enjoy. Left the link cold.

Edit: My son is the one doing push-ups at the 1:57 mark. He stepped on the CHP Emblem. lol

That looks like a great program. Do you have to pay for that or do the kids get sponsors?

It was 80.00 dollars is all. We donate to the CHP post 245 in Placerville every month, I don't know off hand for sponsors, but doubt it would be shunned.. But my son pays for uniforms and such also.  It is a great program and any one under 21 with the thought of law enforcement, there is one for Sheriff's also. It lets them see if there cut out for this career.

The Officer doing the Felony stop training and building clearing is a Super Bowl ring holder from the SF 49er's my son has told me. Trying to figure who it is.

i got my start at Post 449, with the Orange County Sheriff's Department.  a very worthwhile youth program at just the right time in the teenager's life to "nudge" them towards the right side of the law.

ill be the first one to say- it helped my grades in school, made me a more respectful person toward everyone i met, and helped me set, and achieve goals in life.

i breezed through the academy when i became a cop- and i directly credit my previous life experience as an explorer.

15 years later- i almost cried...   I was a freshman in high school when my mother took me to the Uniform Center to buy my stuff for my duty belt. The vast majority of my basketweave leather gear i kept throughout the first decade of my career.  i just last week replaced my old leather cuff case that i bought when i first started doing ride-alongs.  they sure dont make stuff like they used to- my new one is thin and flimsy by comparison to my old one!

As a parent, I see the same with the respect and grades. My son is in his 2nd year of College and he talks of going for an B.A. It is a Positive influence. The weekly mentoring and camaraderie he receives has made him a better young man that I could not teach. Thanks for the reply!
