3 great weekends this month.  Guess which one I and Ma Danby were going camping and shooting in the desert for 4 days.

Same luck I have, lol. Of course, Friday we made lemonade of it. Went to Disneyland on a whim and it was raining, but we practically walked onto every ride. Which desert you camp at?

Hmm, you could be living somewhere with snow up to your backside.  Just want to put things into prospective.

Oh, and I've never let a little rain keep me out of the desert.  I just avoid the washes and enjoy the results.

The Mojave and Colorado deserts have both had some major wetness this year ... could be a good year for the desert blooms come spring. One or two more storms like this last one will just put a high polish on the colors. It's the weirdest thing, those desert blooms. One side of the valley will be carpeted and the opposite side is nearly barren. In the larger parks with some elevation changes you'll get different flowers in each different valley.

yeah but you are known to have a somewhat iffy relationships with refrigerants.

I tend to not want to go to Disney on my day off.  Just the way it is.

We have a tent trailer now and we were going to stay at Calico.  Ma Danby needs a CPAP and until I get the solar panel set-up for the batteries, we're tied to the power cord.  Going to Calico in the rain and not heading out in to the boonies is not thrilling.  This trip we were going to be exploring some of the roads out by Hole-in-the-Wall, down by Steadman and up around Tecopa.  Also were going to take both dogs for the first time.

If I was tent camping by myself I probably would have gone out to Hole in the Wall, maybe toward Joshua Tree.  Like to train watch, so probably around the BNSF, maybe toward Basin on the UP.

Our TV (tow vehicle) is a Tahoe with decent tires but not raised so aggressive four wheeling is not in the cards without another vehicle around.

It is some chilly stuff out in the deserts right now. Visiting my parents out in the AV and it was cold cold cold. Tent trailers are really nice for all types of weather; sounds like you have a good setup.

And on Dland- yeah, I was wondering if I had driven by you when I was parking the car. Being as cold as it was for OC, it was probably a great day to have off

Camping is one of the best things about this state. Good weather and lots and lots of parks, forests, deserts and free camping to be had.

We're so spoiled that if it's a bit windy out we'll cancel the desert trips and wait a week and try again.

damn pics fell off.  Some pics of flowers out at Amboy, like a professional garden, then a year and a few days later zip zilch nada.    Both Ma Danby and I usually work weekends, and both arranged for a 4 day weekend this weekend.

But all indication are it out to be a good year out there this year.

Don't complain. Went on a 3 day camping trip 1-11 to 1-13. It was 14*F at night. The beer froze in your hand if you didn't drink it within 10 min

That was one of the weeks it was summer on the weekend and winter during the week and then spring a few days and back to winter and back to summer the next week.

BTW, I've heard the way to brink deer that cold is to wait until it is almost frozen, strain off the brown ice and drink the remaining liquid.  burp.

The desert can get VERY windy.
