I have always wanted to hunt pig here in CA. I have been doing research on pig hunting here in our wonderful state of California and have not had much luck coming up with places to hunt. It seems everything is private land only or a pay to hunt type situation. Do any of you hunt for pigs here in CA? If so is there any info or assistance you can offer.
Ideally I would like to hunt public land in a fair chase situation, but at this point I am open to any and all option. So what say you CA pig hunters? Where do I get started? |

Honestly, the time and money you spend trying to find a wild pig on public land in CA will easily exceed $500, you will exceed $500 just in gasoline. you will exceed $500 in time at chinese labor-camp wage rates. if you live local to the part of CA with lots of pigs, then you can feasibly scout public land. otherwise, you cannot. |

Agreed, it took me and dad 5 years to actually see and take a pig at Vandenberg AFB, somewhat private land but hard as hell for a beginner. |

I used to go to Twisselman Ranch in San Luis Obispo. Nolan Twisselman is a pretty cool guy, and there were plenty of pigs. Price was reasonable, too, compared to some other places. Link |

Link The Twisslemans are top drawer. Or, try in California Valley at the below listed GPS. Its BLM land and open to the public. Just need a tag. LAT 35.007647 LON -119.589914 There is still water there and the small range is full of little piggies. ETA: Anyone wanting to go there, take the SR166 East from Santa Maria at the 101 east to Soda Lake Springs rd and turn left. If coming from the San Joaquin Valley, take the SR166 through the the City of Maricopa westbound and up Grocer grade to Soda Lake Springs rd. and turn right. Either direction there is a now defunct 76 station and house there at the corner of SR166 and Soda Lake Springs Rd. |

I once knew a cute little gal by the last name of Twisselman.
I was attracted to her as all get out. Then I found out she liked to shoot. Then she mentioned shooting squirrels on her grandfather's land. Then I learned where her grandfather's land was. At that point I fell in love. Met her back while working a crappy little bussing job at a local restaurant. She went off to school after summer and I quit that job a week later. I run into her father fairly often and always ask how she is doing. I am pretty sure he has figured out I have a thing for his lovely daughter, despite it being nearly 10 years since I worked with her. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled thread. |

Might be fun to try a campout/hunt up that way. |

I'll bet you do ! You should meet one of the Thompson girls from the ranch next door. They make Carrie Underwood look ugly. |

Well, set me up, I need a reason to get back out shooting and get out of the house. I have this little rule, when girls are shooting my guns, they tend to shoot for free. |

I don't know for certain that this applies to guided hunts, or hunts on private lands, but this seems to indicate that you can't hunt game animals (pig, deer, etc.) and use lights. http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/current/mammalregs.aspx#264_5 §264.5. Use of Lights While Hunting––Remainder of State.Lights may be used, in those portions of the state not listed in Section 264, to take furbearers and nongame mammals under the following conditions only:
No furbearing or nongame mammals including any threatened, endangered or fully protected species may be taken contrary to any other prohibition set forth in these regulations. also note: http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/current/mammalregs.aspx#352 §352. Shooting Hours on Big Game.Hunting and shooting hours for big game, including but not limited to deer, antelope, elk, bear, and wild pig shall be from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. |
