I went through the facts and realized how lucky we are in Nebraska. I will likely be transferred to Pleasanton, CA in 60 days... How screwed am I?
I currently possess: S&W M&P-15, BCM/Spikes Recce AR-15, M&P 9, G19, ISSC M22, M&P15-22, GSG-5, Draco AK pistol, Ruger GP100, Browning A-bolt .270, various shotguns & .22s and only 3 clips under 10 rounds... Not to mention the thousands of rounds i have accumulated... Is it worth going through the transfer process, or should I buy some new pieces in California? |

the ar's need a "bullet button" to come in, easy enough.
no "hi-cap" mags so disaasemble them prior to entry, and reassemble blocked to 10 rds, or buy 10-rd mags for your stay here. the draco pistol will have to be a single-shot, no detachable mag, to come in. pretty sure on that. then, after you are here, you can make it multi-shot again. the hardest part will be serializing all the ammo. |
| Nothing needs a "transfer process". Bullet buttons need to be put on the ARs and the Draco. Magazines need to be no greater than 10rds, if they are disassemble them or sell them before coming in. There is an handgun ammo law going into effect in Feb. and a safe handgun roster so make sure you fill your pistol ammo needs before Feb. and buy all the handguns and/or frames you ever wanted before coming here. Buy some AR receviers and 1911 frames anyways, when you get here send in the registration paperworks to make them pistols, even if you decide you won't use them, because of the stupid safe handgun roster you can sell them to Californians for a premium. All handguns must be registered when you get here, that means send in the following form with a $19 check PER handgun. Here is a link to the form: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/ab991frm.pdf. |

Browning A-bolt .270: No problem there. various shotguns: Most will be cali compliant as is. I am moving back to Cali soon as well. Does the "no internet sale ammo law" only apply to pistol ammo or does it outlaw buying all ammo over the internet? The law only applies to handgun ammunition. It does not apply to reloading nor does it properly define what pistol ammunition actually means. |

I am also moving to Cali. But I have a question on the Handgun Registration. So I would still have to register a Colt 1917 45acp Revolver made back at that date, or is it considered a relic? What about a 9mm Luger from WWII? I welcome yet another gun owner to California
From the primer on the top of this forum (worth reading) You are considered to be a personal handgun importer as defined by California law. You may bring all of your otherwise California-legal firearms with you, but you must report all of your handguns to the DOJ within 60 days as required utilizing the New Resident Handgun Ownership Report. You are not required to report rifles or shotguns. You may not bring ammunition feeding devices with a capacity greater than ten rounds, machineguns, or assault weapons into California. (PC sections 12001(n), 12072(f)(2)) |

And no high caps. You can register them all through DOJ online they will send you a packet with all the forms you need. |
| Not sure if you guys saw this but AB962 has been blocked for being unconstitutional: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=11&t=438642. This is California so who knows how this will end but it looks like the handgun ammo ban is off the table for now. |

I'm sorry to hijack the OP, but had a follow up on this as I am in a similar position, do you know how exact the date has to be? I.e. if I acquired it on a weekend and didn't know the exact date would I be screwed and should really try to figure out the exact date? |
