Well, it's time for the family vacation once again. We're off to SD, my plan was to bring H&K USPC 9mm with a 10rnd magazine and a Gerber folding knife(<3" Blade).

While we are within the CA border I plan on having the USPC locked in a small case with the loaded magazine within easy reach. Is this a problem?

Is there any manual folding knife restrictions?(I'm leaving the Microtech at home)

HANDGUNS

California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not within any of the classes excepted from firearm possession and who resides or is temporarily in California from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person if the firearm is unloaded and in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1.

- The definition of 'secure' and 'lock' are pretty open. I use a gun rug and a $0.99 store lock. Toss it in the trunk. In your hotel room you're good-to-go as that's considered a residence and you can conceal carry without license. Unloaded means cartridges not attached to the pistol - magazines can be loaded but not inserted into the weapon.

There are some cities with odd knife laws but switchblades are legal here with limits.
