| Okay, i think i'm the first one to get a ticket for talking on a cell phone while driving. One thing that i'm piss about is that on the DMV site it says that for your first offense the fine will be $20.00. So i said to myself that's not too bad, but when i finally got my ticket or fine in the mail it was $74.00. The 74 dollar is only the cell phone fine, on top of that there's court fee and security fee which come out to be about $184.00. I feel like i'm being scam here. The officer even said to me that it's only going to be around 20-25 dollar, but damn ... i can't believe my eyes when i saw the paper in the mail. Any suggestion or advice cuz i'm going to court tomorrow and yeah no judge just to pay the fine. |
| For what it's worth I've seen collection efforts/traffic enforcement efforts go way up in the last three months. Honest hard working folks who would have been given a "slow down" or "fix that blinker" are now walking away with tickets for hundreds of dollars. I got my first ticket in 30 years for of all things putting my SUV's tires off road on a dirt road on private property. I was about 50 feet off the pavement and that cost me $100. I wasn't sure that the police had authority to issue tickets on private property but at least they didn't strip search me or shoot my dog who I've walked on this empty property for 8 years. |

It's the Law you got caught. Just take comfort in the fact that atleast now the police have a law to bust those idiots that drive all over the road inattentively while flapping thier gums.
Sucks to get caught, I still answer the phone sometimes when I'm driving and don't have my lame ass Bluetooth cued up. If I get caught I would not be happy about the fine either. Be safe. |
| Well ... i totally understand that it's the law for us to be safe while driving but when i think about it she could have just gave me a slap on the wrist and let me go, but i guess she will feel like she's not doing her job if she did. I know it suck getting caught at a bad time and i can tell you guys that those damn bluetooth are worth every penny. Do yourself a favor and buy yourself one if you haven't got one yet cuz the fine is a damn pain in the A S S. |

Hahaha, sorry.
My sister got me one for Xmas because she knows what a scoff-law I am. At first I thought, jeez I'm going to look like one of those douchebags! It works great, but I still feel like a D-bag. Now if only there was someway to enjoy a gas station chili-dog without 'sploding it on my shirt and pants. |

Currently in South Carolina visiting first grandson. Was rather surprised because all the in-laws (all shooters and gunners, my son found a good family) and all have certain flags they like to fly once in a while were all bemoaning the fact that SC doesn't have cell phone while driving laws. Seems a family friend got killed this week by a lady on a cell phone and several in the family have been hit by drivers talking on phones. That we have the law is about the only good thing about CA they can think of. Then I show them pix of where I go camping in the Sierras and on the Central coast and they admit they might care to visit.
Much as I hate to see the gubmint butting in, when people are too stupid to do the right thing and might kill me or the family I'm not sure I mind the gobernator smacking them with a 2x4 to get their attention. |

It's a cute law, they first ticketed everyone they saw for the first few weeks to make a point. Apparently now it's business as usual for the hand-held users, or at least during rush hour traffic on the 405. Maybe it's the congestion the cops don't want to deal with. |
| So how do they know if your on the phone, maybe your scratching your head , listening to music, changing the ringer tone. Is it illegal to hold the phone to your head. If you have 2 phones bring the bill in for the other phone and say see I wasnt on the phone at that time. |

Just yesterday my family and I almost got side swiped on the freeway by a lady jaw jacking on her cell phone. Fortunately for me I saw her before she made contact with my vehicle. I have to agree that's one thing that Communist State Of California has done right. |
