Getting nasty emails from people defending this guy.

That said how many CCW permit holders carry 20+ spare mags, 8 knives and two machetes of vacation at a beach resort?

Just a typical ARFCOMer.

I just flew into San Francisco for the weekend and felt perfectly safe with 2 spares and a knife.  Then again it's not a scary beach resort.

I think I have about 25 or so 1911 magazines at home, but they're not all loaded.  I can't imagine carrying all of that stuff around with me.  Sounds like he might have been up to no good.

Really? I must be undergunned on vacation then. I usually just bring my CCW gun, one spare mag, a surefire, my spyderco and leave an AR and 7 mags in the trunk.

I think there is a good chance this guy just watched last man standing too many times.

Ok but think of it this way:

The majority of the population does not own firearms with the intent of using it again someone, even in defense.

The majority of the people who own firearms for defense usually don't take them on vacation.

The majority of the ones who do take them on vacation would only take a handgun or longgun and would view 5+ spare mags, especially for an AR as excessive.

So you are already the minority of the minority of the minority (AKA a typical arfcomer). So he is just one tier above you. Although I do admit that the whole money/machette thing seems a bit out there (ok and 20 spare mags is quite a bit excessive). But who knows, maybe he was in the area for a local pistol match or something. Maybe he is an illegal item importer? You know, bring in switch blades, mags, handguns etc. and sells them off, then deposits the cash at a liquor store for a money order and then cashes out with 'clean' money before heading home.

I don't know...

When I'm in Reno I often have a pistol and an AW in my hotel room.

I regularly check in at Nugget or Silver Legacy with a Galati AW carry case, and no one says anything.

Obviously the orig post is about a tactical mall ninja about to go operational :)

In which case most competition shooters would tell the cops, "I'm here for a pistol match."

His silence on the issue of the bank cash and 20+ loaded mags placed around the hotel room leads the cops to assume the worst possible intentions. Such as he's a bank robber and was preparing for a extended shootout if he was tracked down here.

Clearly you have the right to remain silent, but it's sometimes not the best option. Of course this guy was screwed either way with his priors.

Of course the cops would assume that, and they have every right to. I am also not defending him, but I always like to argue the other end of these things because these types of situations never pan out the way they seem at first. I mean if the guy is so drunk and aggrivated that he is getting into it with valet people then there is a good chance that when the cops show up he is going to have a "I don't have to tell you ****" type of attitude.

But like you said, with his priors it doesn't matter.

They probably borderline with him before running him, then the CJIS or CLETs results came back and they figured they had a dirtbag dead to rights.

Laughed my ass off the first time I browsed CJIS and saw the various 653 PC codes....

Right before I found 653K I found out that it is evidently illegal under one of the sections of PC 653 to keep a dead seal for sale...

Anyhow, the guy sounds like he was being just enough of a dumb ass to deserve atleast some of the charges.    Big rule of why you don't drink and carry a gun, or drink and carry 20+  magazines, couple dozen knives, and lord knows what the fuck else.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE GOING FOR YOUR TRIP !!!!!!!!!  South Orange County visits only require 1 spare mag, where Riverside County would require a few extra mag's and a long-gun of choice and finally L.A. County......HMMMMMMMM!!!! OK, got the list:
                  1. Two or three handgun's with 3-4 mag's each.

                  2. Bulletproof vest and kevlar helmet.

                  3. (2) AR-15's: Tactical and Sniper.

                  4. GRENADES

These are just the basic's, if it's summer time or a holiday weekend than bring a partner for cover fire !!!!!!!!!

I hope not.  I do not think "typical ARFCOMMERS" are criminals.  Yes I saw the smiley.

I hope they arrested him for public intoxication also.  If not, they could lose the whole case for lack of probable cause.

Oh no, they had plenty of PC.  And after they hooked him up downstairs searching the room was well within the bounds.  The "guest" is arrested, they (the hotel) have a custodial duty to inventory/secure the room.  They know there are more weapons in the room to be secured along with any other property.  Call the police for that also.
