The EPA’s lifting of the requirement for states to require oxygenates like MTBE and ethanol be added to gasoline means California motorists will eventually see some price relief at the pump. The additives, which the EPA determined are no longer necessary as there are more-efficient methods for reducing vehicle pollutants, increase the cost of a gallon of gasoline by 4 to 8 cents. What is overlooked in this decision is that California will no longer be an isolated island when it comes to nationwide gasoline production. We should be able to import supplies from neighboring states, meaning that supply-and-demand will return as the order of the day. The federal MTBE requirement kept California out of this loop.

Yeah I hear ya'

I'm retired from my gypsy job (US Navy) so I can actually enjoy living on land and making this stuff that you land lubbers call money. So I bought a sports car toy last year and now I think I've reached the age and wealth that I no longer will go tent camping every few weeks so I'm looking at a camper trailer ... which means something has to tow that thing.

Looking at all the SUV's and trucks you get your choice between a truck with enough horsepower to tow or enough to get good gas milage ... but not both! Having to drive a truck getting 12-14 mpg to work everyday at $3 a gallon is going to drive me nuts ... towing the camper up the mountains is going to do worse.

I guess I could move somewhere where you can't go camping 10 months out of the year (too hot in July and August!).
