| I'm reading about this whole AR15 type lower receiver idea in another topic...and Neoweird had a good point about everyones SKS with detatchable magazine. What happens when they knock on your door and ask for them? Do you just give it up or do you get any money or anything for it? |
You don't have to register rifles here. The only reason they might find out that you have them is if the Feds are tracking your purchases because of other criminal activities you have or you are suspected of being a serious criminal. Hence why I make fun of people who are afraid to buy 80% receivers and are overly cautious about the way they neuter their LEGAL rifles. It makes me think they are doing things that are illegal. Show me an instance where someone has been busted with an illegal weapon in California that didn't involve another criminal offense that incited the intitial arrest or conviction. |
But if the DOJ decides to do something drastic about this wont they look into FFL's books and find out who bought what and go from there? |
Meet my friend, Cash. And meet his sister, Boating Accident. |

Might as well add some paranoia fodder to the mix. How about the FFL has sufficient balls to be one of the regular members here that would never ever cooperate with any LEO for any reason but would go down fighting and doesn't voluntarily allow access to the records ever. Or maybe the DOJ has actually gone to the effort to get a search warrant. Or maybe one of those liberal judeges has let them go on a fishing trip. How would the DOJ know which FFLs to check? heaven forfend maybe the manufacturer has told them which distributor got which guns , who then told the DOJ which FFLs and they got the judge to issue a warrent. And why don't we get an FFL opinion in here on who legally he can show is records to and under what circumstances? etc etc etc And would confiscation of a previously legal weapon without just compensation be an illegal taking? In answer to the question do you get money? well if the State Legislature included $$ appropriation in the bill adding them to the list, then you would get money, or then again, if you were a true Arfcommer you would immediately try to go out fighting, even if it means orpahaning your kids and widowing your wife, but it's the principal of the thing, right? These things don't happen over night, and my relatives in other states might end up with a few more hanger queens so to speak. Then again this is the Black Rifle AR-15 forums, who gives a shit about some crummy SKS around here anyway? |

If you think the CA DOJ would spend the money and man hours to track down a single detachable mag SKS to YOU, then you have bigger problems to worry about. Besides, that perfectly legal SKS I sold you did NOT have a detachable mag when you took delivery Can't believe you would ruin it by installing one of those crappy detach mag conversions ![]() PLus, the DOJ knows that only the people who start these "what if" threads are really the guilty ones. Helps them narrow down their search considerably

Yeah, like they are going to watch these boards and read every post before they get purged. ![]() I highly doubt anyone of authority is watching you or this board, unless you have given them reason to suspect you of something else. Investigations always go in reverse, from a small bit of information or evidence through deduction and reasoning to the person ersponsible. The DOJ won't go out of their way to take them or even enforce the law. My point was I don't want to spend the time and money to have an under-the-bed-trophy. |
LOL I never did anything with that SKS other than shoot it and let it sit in the safe. It's still the same way you sold it to me. I want to buy a minimum of 5 stripped AR lowers if I can, and I was just checking to see if something did get crappy with the whole thing that the DOJ would take my stuff and I'd be out $500+. |

Just don't try it in the LA River, especially in the summer.
