Well guys I went out last weekend to use my vulcan ar and to my dismay, i could only shoot the first round. The magazine was not feeding any rounds except for the first one, so basically i had a single shot ar with 500 rounds for the weekend. Well anyway, I need info on how to take off the old mag, where I can purchase a new mag(or parts for that matterany help would be greatly appreciated guys Thanks Brian |

LOL, I had the same issue. I called the DOJ and I asked if I could use a 20 round colt mag if it was blocked to 10 rounds and then repinned. I was told that would not be an issue as long as I didnt have the mag out for more than the usual repair would take. I thought about it for a while and I decided to replace it with a bushmaster 10 round mag that looks like a 20 rounder so I dont have to mess with blocking it.Cost was about 20 bucks from bushmaster.com under there mag section. If you are near fremont we can always tweek on them together and drill out the pins and repin. I am going to replace my mag this weekend or next. Brian |

Thanks for the info I live in san diego which i dont think is very close to where you live. Do you know how to take out the existing mag and pin in another one? Also isnt it illegal to order a mag from bushmaster even though it will be used legally? Thanks again Brian |

Just by looking at my semi-finished 80%er, the pin must be uber small. Probably around 3/64ths or so. Just look at the little ridge that goes up the spine of the magazine to get an idea of it's size. If you do sucessfully remove the magaine's pin and what not, try (if you can) to take pictures or take gives notes, because I am sure there are several people here (me included) who would want that info. Good luck to both of you. |
| My cousin, who is a machinsit, gave me the idea of using a threaded pin/screw to replace the detented pin. You can use a slightly larger drill to make the first hole, remove the pin, then just tap the hole that is left by the pin. The head of the screw will sit in the larger hole and be hidden by the magazine release, while the threaded end will keep it from falling out. You can also use a low strength thread locker to hold it in place and it keep it from vibrating out. You could probably do it all with a hand drill and a steady hand. Hope that idea helps. |

Those are some pretty good ideas. I cant really see the pin, but maybe a few good pics would help. 50Calguy, I got the vulcan from the delmar gunshow. You are in luck since there is another one on July 15&16th I believe. I can almost guarentee that there will be one there. Hey Unixcock, Can you post a link to the mag that you are talking about. I saw a mag that said made for the doj, but I was unsure if it was a regular 10 rounder or a 10 disguised as a 20. Thanks guys |

This one: www.bushmaster.com/shopping/magazines/8448670-10.asp 10 rounder: ![]() 20 rounder: ![]() As you can see, it's a 20 rounder that can only hold 10 rounds. It's plastic floor plate is pretty hefty, from what I have seen in other pictures. Don't personally own one, but those that have them seem to like them. |

Well if you look in the upper picture (the 10 rounder) it doesn't have the teeth to hold the floor plate and there is a hole in the side near the base. The floorplate is this fat piece of plastic that, from what I have heard, is VERY difficult to remove without breaking the whole damn thing. It has a max capacity of 10 rounds, and as such is legal in California. I guess you could alter it to hold more than that, but it would take some work, and it would be considered manufacturing a magazine and would be illegal here. Bottom line: if you don't alter the magazine to hold more than 10 rounds, it is 100% legal to buy, own, and use here. |
| The Bushmaster 10rd mag is a great mag. Use a Dremel to cut out the old mag. The pin does not go through the mag. The mag is just notched, so once the mag is cut out you will have access to the pin and can push it out with some pliers. Use a rat tail file to notch the new mag. Take as little as possible so the fit is not sloppy. The pin is the same size pin that is in the trigger guard. Set the mag in the mag well and place the mag catch in the slot to simulate the mags proper position. Use some small device to mark the mag through the pin hole so you will know where to notch it. |
| Re: The Bushmaster 10 rounder: You will have to completely mutilate and destroy the plastic floorplate to get it off. Also the magazine body is completely useless without it as it has no floorplate retaining tabs. It is a clever little floorplate and pinning method. You cannot alter it without it becoming junk. |
