I was told to come and try my post here and see if I could get an answer.  I live in California now with my wife is still active duty in the US Navy (seaBee) and am waiting for her to retire in 5-7 years before we move back to Missouri.  I am going back to Missouri where I own a home and property in April for the spring turkey season and was wondering if I can buy a lower AR unit while I am there and just not bring it back to MO?

I was told there is a CA law that prevents be from buying banned weapons from out of state .... does that prevent me from buying it and bring it back to CA or does it also cover me buying it out of state and leaving it out of state?  These California laws are NUTS!

I appreciate your feedback, I've never owned or built an AR before so I don't know very much on th e subject.

If you buy out of state, you can not bring it back home.

IF your wife is a resident of the other state, she can purchase an AR in Missouri and register here because of her active duty status.  I think though that she has to be with you when you go shooting.
