It looks like i'm moving to cali.  is the FN 5n7 legal to bring in?

not at the moment.  I hear by summer it might be legal but no final word yet.  So put it in a safe back home and wait till you can bring it into state.

I was under the impression it was only illegal to purchase, however like all other non-rooster pistols, it was legal to own under certai circumstances, like in your condition, moving into the state.

I may be wrong, but that was how I thought it worked out.

Just remember, if you do bring it in, you must register it within 30 days. Handguns are 30 days, long guns you don't even have to mention.

You guys are both wrong.

The Five-seveN is perfectly legal for you to bring into CA, as long as you leave your 20 rounders out of state.

It's just not "Certified" for new sales in CA, but should you want to sell it, you could PPT it after you've registered it with the DOJ within 30 days (or was it 60) of moving into the state.

yes you can BRING it here if you already own it, and have to do the registration thing.
if your here you cant buy it NEW from a dealer until it goes on the safety list.
PPT of the gun is legal.

i expect the 5-7 to get listed, if it can pass the ATF importation rules then it can pass drop safety with no problem, the caliber isnt going to be make a difference.

In other words, bring it in, register it, and sell it to me...

if ur moving in, bring all the non listed pistols you can!
as long as theres no evil features (threaded barrel, barrel shroud, etc etc) your good to go and people are willing to buy them (and pay a premium...ie idiots like me) in the event you feel like you no longer want to keep it.

that's weird... my girlfriend moved back to CA from GA and I wanted her to bring a pistol back to CA that wasn't on the approved list. well, i called SEVERAL FFL dealers and they all told me that we couldn't do it and anything she can bring in HAD to be on the list.

i should have called DOJ to confirm this, but just didn't have the time.
DAMN!!! i could have had some nice things back then. oh well.

So what popular models would I want to "own" before I moved to Cali?
But may not want to "keep" after I get them registered.

Well, FiveSeveN until it goes through the test. We should know by April if it passes.

HK Mark 23, although the threaded barrel might be a problem.

Some Series 70 colt 1911? I'm not exactly sure how this goes, but I think cali won't pass 70 1911s. Anyone else know more?

Where did you hear that?  There are many 1911s on the CA list that does not have the firing pin safety (series 70 style), i.e. les baers.

The HK Mark 23's threaded barrel makes it an AW.

Both my 1911s have been "Series 70s"
Neither Springfield Armory nor Les Baer put firing pin safeties on their 1911s, and they both passed the drop tests.

so your saying that right now i can buy an FiveSeven as long as its used?
2/15/2005 6:37:58 PM EDT
[#14]
To legally buy a  five seven  in California, it would have to be a consignment sale or a person-to-person transfer from the seller to you.

a "used" MK23 with a non-threaded barrel is legal.

Theoretically yes.

The only way it could happen would be for someone to import one from another state in the act of moving to Cali and register it.  (Used handguns being brought in by new residents are not subject to The List, only to the AW ban.)  Then that person could transfer it to you as a used handgun.  That would be perfectly legal.

OK I am asking outwrite,

Gosh!

How unusual!

People buy from warehouses and bring them back to their hometown with the intent to sell all the time. I don't see why firearms, when done legally, would be any different. The only snag I might see is if you do it to an excessive amount, they may see it as you making a bussiness out of it.

Thikn of it in regards to C&R. There is no written rule per se, but there are rules.
