Anyone have a private 1 or 2 lane gun range on their own property?

Do you open it up for other ppl?
any issues or liabilities?
neighbor issues?
backdrop construction?
ever do a range day?

I'm not the owner but:

I live in rural Polk county and have access to a family owned range any time I want.  The range is located JUST inside county property and is now bordered by a gated subdivision.

(For Me) range is uncomfortably close to two major roadways and bounded on two sides by subdivisions. But the area is growing up around and the range won't be there for much longer. In the mean time, you had better make damn sure where that weapon is pointed at all times and adhere to all the safety rules ALWAYS.

Construction consists of back filled tire piled berms and dirt with thick trees behind/above.

Area is posted no trespassing.

There is a range table with sign-in.

Range is used primarily as a new shooter/load test/3 gun/IDPA practice area for family and close friends of family. No open range day. Occasional social function shoot......like a "men's day" from church.

100 yard rifle bench rest.

On going issues with new "northern" neighbors in the city subdivision who think a war has broken out with 3gun /IDPA practice sessions. It is not uncommon for the Sheriff to investigate. Trespassers using the range have stopped. Family/Owner is on site and often participates in activities.
Encroachment is the biggest issue and liability.

I have a range set up where I can get to 485+ yards for LR rifle and a two separate lanes for 100, 200, and 300 yard shooting with platforms about 3' off the ground big enough to hold 4 shooters at a time at the 200 and 300 yard mark

No issues... it's America, always liabilities.

No neighbor issues, it's out off the beaten path.

Back stop on one section is dirt and I have another 350 yard lane that has a tire/dirt wall back stop with metal sheet sides to catch splatter.

I often invite guys I've met from my training classes and a local gun board in Tallahassee to come out and shoot, grill, and socialize.

I just got that pic from the net, but I would either double up the railroad ties behind it or put tires back there, but essentially its just woods.

If you plan on shooting steel, I recommend a set up that allows you to set the targets inside the walls to catch splatter and shards of jacket materials.  While hi-power rifle rounds tend to vaporize and leave little behind, glancing hits will cast off some hi-velocity shards that will still travel a good distance sideways... enough to penetrate thin metal sheeting like that on a tin roof.  Plus, you will end up with EXTREMELY sharp pieces of jacket material scattered about.

The only steel id like to shoot is a plinking thing for .22lr i would probably set it as low and back into the contraption as I could.

i have a 300 yard range at the house but it's very wide.

Do you open it up for other ppl?  only if they sign my release form (waiver) as well as i know them or a friend vouches for them.
any issues or liabilities?  none after the waiver.
neighbor issues?  now that the snow birds are down i'll get the sheriffs to stop by every once in a while, but other than that no issues. We've shot machine guns (legal with class 3 dealer) shotguns, 6 ak's at the same time, ar's...you name it. tannerite and what not.
The police stop by and are friendly, they know that they cannot do anything because its zoned ag.
backdrop construction?  6 dump trucks of dirt, back drop is telephone poles, 2x4's and plywood. we shoot steel targets here primarily, no issues, they do not travel more than 15-20 feet normally, i've shot .223, 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 closer than most people would, no issues.
ever do a range day? only private with friends/training.

I would love to find a private range or land to lease in collier or lee counties. I can only shoot 200yds at Babcock for so long before I'm bored and manatee is a good 2 hours+ away.
