I took the family out to Egmont today. I had the boat anchored bow and stern with bow facing away from the beach. I was sitting on the beach and watched a boat tried to back in next to me. The current was moving pretty good to the north and this guy did not take it into account. He shut off his boat and it was drifting fast toward mine. It barely missed my boat but it snagged my bow anchor line and started pulling my boat away from the beach. I took off after it but it was getting farther away. I had been snorkeling earlier and I still had the neoprene booties on my feet. I was having a hard time swimming, but made it to the boat. By now I was a couple hundred feet from shore. I got onto the boat and just as a did they got my anchor line unhooked from their motor. I said to them "at least you could apologize". They looked at me like  andsaid "what, did we hit you anchor line". I was pissed. What the heck is wrong with people, why can't they take responsibility for their actions? |

The answer is .....ding, ding, ding. A lack of civility and manors training when they were children.
children growing up and taught in the public school system where the basic set of ten rules were once dominate and at least displayed if your inclined to read and abide by them. The decline in the two parent home; one father and one mother,, a balancing act that can not be replaced with a mom, mom or dad, dad relationship No matter what some minority deviant popular groups claim. And lastly the decline in the traditional practice of most religions. (most not all, and if you think this is singular,exclusive,and one narrow sided belief you are correct it is meant to be that way) Removing God from society IS and will continue to be the downfall of mankind. This is where we are today in our society and we are under judgement that will increase as we decrease in morality What is in your heart is what will guide you, relax a bit and forgive you will be better off in the long run That is our lesson of the day; worth what you put into it and take out of it in my case it took 5 minutes of my time to type it and if it helped: well Great and pass it on, if not; FORGET BOUT IT! |

Well said and these are my thoughts as well..I will add that I feel that the sanctity of marriage has fallen short by today's standards..It's too easily accepted that if a marriage hits a rough spot, divorce and keep marrying till you find one that works vs working through the issues and doing whatever it takes to make it work..Just my thoughts cause I've seen it first hand with a few friends.. |

I agree except on the religious part. My wife and I don't practice religion but we are good people. My kids are well behaved and have good manners and that didn't happen by accident. In fact, strangers are surprised how well behaved my children are. |

I was bosun-chaired up the mast of the 32' I used to have, anchored outside Dinner Key years ago.
Saw a noisy "go-fast" idling out the old Seaplane Channel with 3 dudes in it. They fouled a small saiboat's anchor rode on their way out, tangled it in one of their props, continued towing the sailboat partway out the channel, and only stopped because they realized one of their engines had quit running. They actually raised their engine hatch and were "troubleshooting" when they ... finally ... heard the sailboat owner screaming at them. They didn't apologize, either. Liveaboard a few years. You'll damn near see it all.
Glad you're OK. (P.S. ... you do realize you could be prosecuted in Florida for; having 2 anchors, of adequate size, and knowing how to use them.) Stay safe |

First of all, I was raised by a single mother. I am an educated, well mannered, and contributing member of society, I always have been and always shall be. Second, I am a Christian, and you sir should be ASHAMED of yourself for making a post wherein you cite the removal of God from our culture as the reason for decline(a point I do agree with) whilst simultaneously sitting about and judging others. Need I remind you just what the Lord has to say about that specific manner of behavior? It's addressed and handled a lot more harshly than single parents or a lack of display of the Ten Commandments in school. Perhaps you should have spent the "5 minutes" you spent typing this on your knees praying to the good Lord to unharden your heart and help you walk in love towards your brothers and sisters instead of sitting in judgement on whatever self created moral throne you apparently rest yourself on. You wanna know why fewer people are inclined to believe in God? It's because folks like you hold themselves up as an example of our faith. You wanna see change? Stop judging and start witnessing. |
