Hello Florida HTF guys!

I'm heading down to Florida in the very near future, and I was wondering if you could recommend some of your favorite places on Marathon Key / Marathon Shores???

About 2 years ago I posted a similar question about the Longboat Key / Sarasota area, and you guy came through with FANTASTIC Recommendations for GREAT places to eat, GREAT places for a lot of food on a budget, and GREAT places for entertainment! I was hoping you could help point me in the right direction again! Also, thanks for the recommendation for the Oaks Open Pit BBQ on S. Tamiami Trail in S. Sarasota! FAN-FUCKIN'-TASTIC food! SIX people (My parents, my brother, his wife, myself, and my wife) were FILLED with great BBQ food, beers, side dishes, and we all took left-overs back to the condo for under $100 bucks! My parents are still talking about that great place - was one of (if not *THE*) best places we ate on that vacation!

The Oaks Open Pit BBQ really hit a home-run with EVERYBODY the last time y'all recommended great places to go!

I was wondering, are there any good BBQ places, Burger / Diner places, Italian places, and possibly some Fish/Seafood places on Marathon Key?

My wife is allergic to shellfish, so we're always concerned with cross-contamination of food at some Seafood places, so I hope there's some good seafood places that also have decent land-based food too. The other 5 of us can eat seafood though - I just can't kiss my wife until I get back to our room to brush & Listerine.

I was hoping there'd be a BBQ place out on Marathon Key, but considering it's in the chain of keys along Overseas Hwy, I'm not going to hold my breath.

We like food of ALL ethnic backgrounds, but especially like Florida Seafood (I'm a fan of crunchy fried Grouper ), but I prefer BBQ Pork/Beef over seafood, we all like Asian foods, and small mom & pops Diners. The occasional grungy dive bar with good food & cheap drinks is always fun too!

Also, are there places that rent 2-person bikes, preferably side-by-side bikes? My wife has a slight disability, and the side-by-side bikes or 2-person Trike works best for the two of us to get around - anybody know if a place in the area has something like that?

Pretty sure it's a bad idea to rent a motor scooter for riding on US-1... Not sure of the speed limit, but I've heard some horror stories of bad drivers on the Overseas Highway.

Also, any good places for evening entertainment?

I'm planning on mostly hanging around the rental house - it has a nice swimming pool, tidal pool, hot tub, grill, and I'm sure my wife and I will head to the beach on the south end of the island sometime during the week.

Thanks again for any advice you guys can give me for the island/area!

http://www.nonamepub.com/  Big Pine Key ( you should go down there to see the Key Deer anyway. There ought to be some around the bar)

Annett's lobster and steakhouse could not find link to restaurant

Not impressed with Porky's. Looks promising, but I feel they're riding on reputation alone.

Burdine's at the end of 15th.St.  Mobile home Park on the corner on oceanside.  Best Chili Cheeseburger around + other great choices.

Hit Sombrero Beach.  Turn at the light by K-Mart and head to the end.  Public but still nice.

Hurricane Bar across from Home Depot next to Tilden's Dive Shop on the Gulfside.  Depending on the night good tunes.

Some hotties at Sombrero beach.

Also missed a Portuguese Man-o-War the went right by us & washed up on shore...  Pretty, but dangerous.

Forgot to lotion behind my knees & got fried there.
